Remember that midnight raid in Chicago supposedly to arrest Tren del Aragua members? Newly revealed court docs show that the raid was facilitated by the building owners who are now accused of using the raid to evict tenants. Huge swing to the Democrats in a deep red seat.
JUST IN: Democrats flip a red seat in the Texas Senate.

Taylor Rehmet wins against Leigh Wambsganss, a conservative activist who helped lead right-wing efforts to take over TX school boards.

With all early vote, and 95% of precincts, in, Dem up 57/43.

Trump won this seat by 17% in Tarrant County.

I guess the best-available defense to this sort of thing—lots of friendly emails and visits with someone recently convicted of procuring a child for the purposes of prostitution, I mean—is something like “He seemed to have lots of money and connections and I would have liked a little piece of that”

Having Gary Abernathy on the NewsHour debating Jonathan Capeheart was nearly anger inducing.

Abernathy is only there to parrot the DHS naritive of cover-ups and obfuscation.

Fuck that guy.

Bring back David Brooks.

I was in a meeting recently where someone was wondering aloud about why sociology has faced more political scrutiny than econ and psych. And I think it's that sociology centers the social (i.e., systemic) causes of human outcomes, thus directly challenging the individualism on which fascism thrives.

"Will the measures Ds are proposing for the DHS funding bill free Liam Ramos and kidnapped people? Will they guarantee congressional access to and oversight of the concentration camps? If not, you must vote against the bill."

FINALLY an elected official demanding what I think should be the floor.

CLAW BACK THE MONEY FOR THE PRIVATE ARMY
Republicans' Big Ugly Bill gave Trump $190 billion for DHS, including $75 billion for ICE and $65 billion for CBP.

That's money Republicans stripped from rural hospitals and helping people afford health care.

Congress should claw it back and put serious restraints on DHS.

Every word of this. Clawing back the slush fund is the floor and we should demand it of Senators.
I wrote about Senate Dems’ proposed “reforms,” which range from superficial to likely unenforceable to actively harmful; the grip billionaire-backed anti-“abolish” Groups have over Washington and the conspicuous absence of any attempt to touch DHS’s obscene budget.

“Body cams,” vague demands of “accountability,” but no attempt to cut DHS's obscene budget is a recipe for status quo maintenance.
