If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029:

- $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion
- $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million
- $8 billion for hiring/retention
- Billions more.

i honestly do not understand why or how people do these kinds of willful misreadings. do they not grasp that anyone halfway curious will notice they’ve taken a line or passage totally out of context? do they believe that language works such that every sentence is logically untethered from the next?
My central objection here is that Taibbi refers to me as a friend, which is offensive even when sarcastic. But I reserve some indignation for his having either willfully or inexplicably misread my view of Mamdani’s victory.
