NYC Mayor Adams' new budget proposal would siphon even more $$$ from libraries, shuttering most branches on weekends (budget cuts have already closed branches on Sundays). If you're in NYC, please take a moment to send a form letter supporting NYPL! I just did, it takes ~30 seconds 📚
Friends in NYC! Please use these forms from our public libraries to tell the mayor not to cut NYC library budgets! Pick your borough and fill out the form!

A long shot but wtf.

When I was photographing birds on the empty beach south of Barcelona's airport, this magnificent gentleman waved to me, pointed to himself, and immediately struck a pose. I fired off this frame, we shared a laugh from 50m, and went on our ways.

I'd love to get it to him.

Donald Trump’s proposed 16-week natl ban would not legalize a single abortion that is currently illegal. It would not moderate any of the stricter state-level bans. It would instead restrict abortions in places where they are currently legal. That people don’t get this is an indictment of the media.
the previous post is apropos this from @brianbeutler.bsky.social, in which reporters are treating trump's abortion "compromise" as "moderation" when it represents a view quite a bit more extreme than what americans are *actually voting for* www.offmessage.net/p/three-less...

As the CDC is discussing weakening its COVID isolation guidelines, NY is proposing to end its COVID sick leave law.

The changing CDC guidelines will increase worker exploitation. Governments and businesses will use the weakened guidelines as an excuse to downgrade their paid sick leave policies.

It's pathetic the CDC is justifying weakening their guidance because "no one is following them."

How many times have we heard "but the CDC guidance says it's fine" used as an excuse?

Weak guidance doesn't lead to better public health. It endorses anti-public health behavior.

Even if you participate in activities like indoor dining, it's still important to wear a mask some of the time.

Reducing reinfections decreases your risk of Long COVID, and wearing a mask on public transport and in healthcare protects higher risk people who need to access essential services.
