Because we all need something to brighten our evening, here are this year's Best Picture Nominees as the birdcage quotes...
Good. Because my main complaint about airplanes has always been that people smell too good and need to be sweatier.
Duffy on what he's doing to improve the airport experience for travelers: "Maybe I want a workout area where people might get some blood flowing doing some pull ups or step ups in the airport."

It is genuinely wild how this has blown up in QT's face. Just a wild miscalculation for one of the most powerful directors in the business to go on an asshole's podcast and punch down so gleefully against good actors that everyone likes

Scream and Five Nights at Freddy's star Matthew Lillard has admitted it "it f***ing sucks" to be on the receiving end of an insult from Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill director Quentin Tarantino. https://bit.ly/3KD9PnN

Nothing sounds worse to me than "Quentin Tarantino on Bret Easton Ellis' podcast," and I'm glad that I seem to have been proven right on that matter.

The loss of matte painting is one of the key reasons Hollywood films have lost so much of their beauty and luster over the past several decades. No CGI I've ever seen is as beautiful, evocative, or meaningful as this image.

@bcdreyer.social Can you settle a debate that is dividing our high school English hallway this morning:

"Every employee and intern must submit
___ (his or her/their) credentials."

Besides the fact that "their" is more appropriate today, is the subject here singular or plural?

I don't want to brag, but this is the exact double feature I recommended on @attcpod.bsky.social!
JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS (2001) screens on a 35mm double bill with John Carpenter’s THEY LIVE (1988) next week, October 10th - 12th. Tickets: buff.ly/McIpXaU

As always, Matt Singer is mostly right (haven't seen the latest one, put Punch-Drunk at 2, and this is probably my list...).
Ranked Paul Thomas Anderson’s entire career, although I reserve the right to move One Battle After Another up even higher after a couple more viewings.

I’ve been rewatching the Coen Bros filmography this month and while drawing a Barton Fink illustration, it struck me how much their films feel like Far Side cartoons: funny, strange, clever, yet frequently inscrutable. Anyway here’s a thread!

Hulu just added Death of Stalin and Weekend at Bernie’s (and is featuring them on their main page this weekend)… it’s just very funny.
I hope everybody is inspired to see The Death of Stalin.

Had my own “Harold!” moment tonight when, mid-Megalopolis, the lady behind me yelled “oh, they’re lesbians!” However, one of her lesbians was actually Shia LaBeouf.

@ticketmaster.com I would love you to ask The Chicago Theatre why they just decided to close our section for tonight and move us to seats we don’t like with no notice or refund!!

Yes for DETROIT ROCK CITY love! One of my favorite @attcpod.bsky.social discoveries
#Junesploitation day 18: Rock and Roll! I ended up choosing 2 films, but I must confess, I haven't completely watched them. In each case, JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS & DETROIT ROCK CITY, I had to stop after 20min & order the blu rays. Its not often I do this but JFC how have I not seen these!

That a long dying pope was able to hang on just long enough to de-pants JD Vance before the world, and then he instantly kicked off like Art Carney in The Last Action Hero, has prompted me to consider the existence of a god for the first time in decades. A god with story sense and sharp comic timing
