Did we all decide to translate “내란죄“ as “treason”?

I see that’s what the Korean press is doing—they are notoriously bad at translating Korean—and all the pundits are kind of going along with it.

I’m also more of a “vibe” translator than a academic one but not when it comes to legal terms.

For the record, the official translation of the Korean criminal code has 내란죄 as “insurrection” (87). Which I guess the argument here is that it’s a form of treason?

I know I’m being pedantic but it would be nice if newspapers at least used the official wording within the article itself at least?
