I get razzed for sticking w old things: my phone's from 2018, my "computer monitor" is a 15 yo TV, my car could legally drink & my house is full of 1950s & 60s furniture. Here's the thing: older shit was built better & I don't worry that it's going to self destruct or steal my peace w an "upgrade."

This is my fear as I see a few people in my life get a glimmer in their eyes as they recall AI conversations. These are products with one goal: to keep you engaged. If you end up isolating everyone in the process, well that's just more time you can invest in the chatbot.
Good article about some pretty concerning situations, though it's hard to gauge how common this is yet. This whole thing is so 2025, right down to needing to read the article in reader mode on my phone because the advertising was so intrusive I couldn't focus otherwise.

Lessons from being online since 1995

1. Brandolini's law:
"The amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude bigger than that needed to produce it."

2. Chill before serving. (Mine)

3. It's irony when the actor or observer is "confidently unaware."

4. On the Media's rules.

And in fact we wouldn't have to invest so much time and energy obfuscating if it wasn't.

September is Bisexual Visibility Month.
So lets clear up something very basic here:

Turns out when you ask the robots how hungry they are, they'll attempt to justify why the entire ecosystem should continue to be fed. Note I didn't ask why the money was being spent, just how much.

So my new-to-me townhome in the suburbs has a kitchen door that could be assumed to be the front door. Yesterday 2 sales guys opened the creaky storm door to knock and were greeted by the kung fu kick-and-lock of a startled former city dweller. Kind of sorry but also good to know about myself, lol.

It's times like this I'm glad for my dark sense of humor because the comic made me chuckle if nothing else.
Why are RFK Jr. and the Trump GOP destroying a federal agency that is the international gold standard for fighting disease?

"While these safeguards work best in common, short exchanges, we’ve learned over time that they can sometimes become less reliable in long interactions where parts of the model’s safety training may degrade."

So the longer you interact with the model, the more off script it goes? Fantastic.

Wanted to get more context on the current vibe with tech stocks, so I searched news on "magnificent 7 stocks" in the past week. I thought it was weird that I wasn't seeing anything... then I realized my last phone scrub reset my search to Google.
