Of course a little over half the people getting SNAP food aid *have jobs*. They just aren't earning enough money to feed their families and pay rent etc too. And many are simply between jobs, are applying for them. And even if the SNAP recipient doesn't work--does that mean we starve their children?
Tolkkinen: Let me tell you what it’s like asking for help to buy food
The government shutdown threatens food aid, bringing the “Get a job” crowd out of the woodwork.

Why are planetary scientists, astrobiologists and and SETI scientists so negative (pissed off, even) about Avi Loeb’s repeated claims that 3I/Atlas may be an invading alien spaceship?

This is a hell of an essay and I am intrigued by this Vince Gilligan show. 🧪🩺 #MedSky #LongCovid #DisabilitySky #Spoonies
Living with Long COVID often feels like living in a horror movie. Along with your disease comes a creepy Hive Mind refusal to acknowledge the dangers of COVID infection. In Vince Gilligan's new Apple TV show Pluribus, the Hive Mind comes to life:

"Pluribus" captures the isolation of COVID-awareness in a COVID denialist world
For years I've described having Long COVID as living in a horror movie. Now that horror movie (well, prestige Apple TV show) is here.

I feel there should be a Beauregard in there somewhere.
What’s a very “white Southern old money” name for a man?
So far I have ‘Troy Cunningham III,’
but I’m wondering if I can do even better.

Oh, I feel some type of way about this. And since I plan to tell off everyone I can before I die, I am going to talk about it. Welcome to my Ted Talk: "Latin actors can save Star Wars--but does it deserve to be saved?"
Oscar Isaac is open to returning to Star Wars but “not so open to working with Disney”
“I mean, I’d be open to it, although right now I’m not so open to working with Disney. But if they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great”

This was literally the underlying rationale behind most of US foreign policy in the 1980s. The US government loves a fascist. WW2 was frankly an aberration in that regard.
I am cynically edging towards something I'd rather not believe:
That they are OK with the fascism and see it as a way to keep their jobs.
That they are OK with the fascism and see it as a way to keep their jobs.
You would think. But then, logic and strategy have been in short supply with Ds for far too long.

I love to be first or last. Congratulations.
This is a good day for writerly validation. Two stories published in two different anthologies, and both of them were selected to be the first story in each book. Hard to beat that. 😍

ACA was the compromise. If Republicans want to flip the table and start over, we cannot negotiate from the compromise. Single payer is the demand. They can negotiate us back to the ACA again if they want.
