Code UFB!!!

On November 22nd, the planet hit 1.81°C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial baseline, making it the warmest November 22nd on record, and likely the warmest November 22nd in the last 120,000 years.

Hot times ahead.

The final agreement from COP30 doesn't mention fossil fuels, argues we are only 80% of the way to 1.5C, sets out an insane timeline of GHG reductions, and mentions 'a rapidly narrowing window.'

The COP is dead and burried. And COP30 was the final nail.

“But it’s precisely because U.S. policy is so unpredictable that predicating Canadian behaviour on the hope of avoiding erratic U.S. reactions is likely futile. … The best way to ensure that Canadians aren’t next isn’t to remain silent … it’s to insist that law applies to every country’s conduct…”

$1 billion data centre to maybe create 100 jobs. That's likely an overstatement.

It is truly not worth draining the living word for this vampiric tech and people are starting to realize it.

The International Criminal Court is ditching Microsoft Office, saying it’s too dependent on US tech, in favor of Open Desk, a German open source alternative.

The move comes after Microsoft revoked ICC head Karim Khan’s email access when he was sanctioned by the US for the warrant against Netanyahu.

Really excited about The North State this week. Now that the dust has settled on Budget 2025, I felt now was the time to really dive into it. I had three great journalists on a panel, @karynpugliese.bsky.social, @arshy.bsky.social and @ianagp.bsky.social, to discuss the budget and coverage. #cdnpoli

"Simply repeating “productivity”/”nation-building” isn’t enough. There are many ways to improve productivity and to build a nation. Why these choices and not others?
Canadians are owed explanations and a debate over alternatives. Esp when youth and the most vulnerable are being asked to “sacrifice.”
Canadians shouldn’t have to resort to guessing about the main element of Mark Carney’s entire policy agenda.
It is fundamentally offensive, and antithetical to good governance and sound policymaking, that Carney is leaving everyone to guess why he’s doing what he’s doing.

The axis of Liberal/Conservative/Authoritarian/Billionaire politicians just abandoning the climate crisis really spells disaster for life on this planet. It is shocking how countries have just given up on trying to stop global warming.

The current level of anomalies in the Northern Hemisphere is insane, we are past the 2023/2024 anomalies and the +1C vs 1991/2020

Note specially the anomalies from 30N to 80N: It's brutal and there is not a bit of hype here.
It is what it is: insane

The 3-year running mean for the Global surface temperature anomaly above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial baseline is now at 1.495°C.

Given the current global temperature forecast, the 3-year mean should cross 1.50°C within the next 30 days.

Arguing that abandoning all talks risks the Canadian economy misses the point: the continental economy is *already gone*. And we're going to pay for it one way or another. Certainty can come only at the cost of subservience. And actual resistance and resilience can't be had w/ tax cuts & austerity.
