There are so many better magic school books that are much less mean-spirited and less biased than those ones and I say this as someone who was neck deep in the fandom in the early 2000s
I’ve seen a few folks go for the “if you simply must watch that new Harry Potter show just pirate it” and sorry. No. Just no. Just don’t watch it. At all. Ever. Break free of it. It’s time. You’ll be ok. I promise. I know it mattered to you as a kid. Find new things, it’s healthier. Just move on.

I have not seen any fan-run paid OFMD event that *didn't* have a community fund to get as many people involved as possible. OCMD had one. Siren Events has one. Wee Con (which I helped with) had one.
