My friend and I started a podcast! Each week, we’ll be exploring topics we’re curious about. It’s inspired by our time as educators and the questions we’d get from students. If you’re interested in learning about a little bit of everything, maybe check us out.

Empire of Vice
In a perverse twist on virtue signaling, the Trump administration is training Americans in the politics of raw domination.

The kitten is now INSIDE of the dropped ceiling and vaguely above my head. If I go silent awhile, understand He Happened To Me.

Anyway. Threader earrings. These are so cool, and doubly so with two piercings because you can loop through both. $16.

My absolute favorite thing in the entire world is that when something, anything, happens that is slightly surprising or frustrating, my toddler’s go to response is “Oh, Crackers!”

I am happy my husband is happy.

Don’t tell him I’m devastated for that poor kicker who looked bereft after that wide field goal. I feel so bad. This is why I can’t watch sports. Even when my team wins, I feel terrible.

I think committed relationships need to come with a warning label that you’ll end up caring about stuff that was meaningless to you years ago.

I don’t even LIKE football. I ACTIVELY dislike Rodgers and his understudy.

And yet. Here I am. Watching this stupid game when I could be in bed. WHO AM I

It feels like some absolutely upside down shit that both my husband and I are consumed by the news this morning but also have a little person to take care of and love and also go to swim lessons with

Little man and I are on our own for the afternoon while his dad is at the movies (I didn’t feel like seeing avatar so the trade off is I get a girls night next week - balance!). Currently we’re making chicken stock, which smells delicious, and later we’ll bake some cookies ❤️

Y'all we have one more day to make 19 presents happen. Please help if you can.
Tomorrow is the last day of this holiday toy drive for Chicago families impacted by ICE. 41 of the 60 kids who were registered have had a present purchased.

Organizers are hoping every child and family can receive a gift. Let's help them reach their goal!

I don’t not enjoy grating cheese (it’s a sensory thing for me) but good golly is fresh cheese, even the generic store brand from our local chain, better than shredded. For literally almost everything.

Life with a toddler:
-has a million toys gifted from well meaning relatives
-prefers playing with leftover pompoms from my previous life as a teacher and a blanket draped over either the arm of a chair or his mother.

Before I head to bed, trying to add a little bit of joy with Santa playing peekaboo with my (right in the middle of stranger danger stage) toddler. It was hosted as a sensory friendly event by his OT, and it reminded me there are patient, kind people in this world.

I’m just going to tell the story. Back in 2000 I was volunteering for the Gore campaign when he came along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Alfre Woodard and Dule Hill to a GOTV event here in MN. He ended up sitting down across from me stuffing his envelopes.

This weekend has been so oppressively horrific on a global scale, and so quietly lovely on a personal scale.

The juxtaposition makes me feel physically ill. I think tomorrow will be spent having as much time as I can with loved ones and figuring out what my way of being one of the helpers can be.

Tonight Stekkjastaur, the first of Iceland's 13 Yule Lads, comes down from the mountains. He likes to sneak into the sheep shed to drink milk from the ewes.

All the children put a shoe in the window for him to put a treat or a little gift in – if they have been good! The bad children get a potato.
