I think we should take away "X is feminist/Y is anti-feminist" discourse from fandom until people can learn that their personal squicks aren't necessarily the same as "if you think this is hot, you're a gender essentialist" because jfc.

If I could I would ban ALL feminism discourse from fandom tbh.

I think what I hate most about this is that on Amazon, if an indie prices their book above $9.99, their royalty drops from 70% to 30%. But based on how many trad houses are now pricing their ebooks over $9.99, it's pretty obvious Amazon isn't slashing trad pub the same way.
Indie authors get told $2.99 is too much for their ebooks but trad pub just releases Sunrise on the Reaping's ebook for $18.99.

They suck! We’re mad at them! They are part of the everyone we mean when we say everyone deserves rights, dignity, respect, and safety!

No voting on who gets to be people
Even people who voted for this do not deserve to lose housing, healthcare, or food. I understand the temptation to think that when their actions hurt so many, but “people I do not like do not deserve to have their basic human needs met” is how we got here, and it will get weaponized against you

Unsolicited writing advice, no. #766: Writing is a community. Participate in it if you can. Engage with other writers. Lift them up, and they’ll do the same. Try to go it alone, or treat other writers as rivals, and you’re more likely to sink than swim.

I don’t care if you’re a relative, a fantasy novelist, or an elected official, transphobia is manufactured outrage and transphobe are trash.

None of America’s problems are cause by trans people. None.

But a LOT are caused by bigots.

I appreciate this piece in The Bulwark greatly. It makes the serious, moderate, cis-friendly case that trans rights are not a distraction or a trifle to be easily dispensed with.

We All Lose in Trump’s War Against Trans Americans
His cynical executive orders targeting trans people will harm important American institutions by taking away talent, energy, and the plain competence our country needs.

The reason A.I. is being shoved down our throats is shareholders want a return on their investment. Every company that integrates this crappy tech into their products knows you don't want it, but they've sunk too much money into it and don't care. Turn it off, don't use it, don't look back.

I had a relative compelled into service to the enemy. He mistranslated all the manuals for captured equipment so that The Thing Don't Work.

Mistranslate the manuals, whatever that means for you.
a key take away from reading a lot of history for me:

the people who survive hard times and eventually brutally humiliate their seemingly invincible enemies are not the people whose first response to adversity is “oh well, guess I’ll die”

I’m a little tearful watching a news item on the legalisation of gay marriage in Thailand

It’s so good to see that there are places in the world where we’re still breaking ground, even as it feels “the west” is sliding backwards

Congratulations, Thailand. You’re a light in the world today 🇹🇭 🏳️‍🌈

I love this so much!

At the inauguration, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson wore a distinctive collar adorned with cowrie shells, which are believed to offer protection from evil in African traditions.

This choice mirrors the late Justice Ginsburg’s practice of using collars to convey a message.
