The rare & beautiful violet sea snail - a predator of Portuguese Man O’War & by-the-wind sailors. It lives its whole life at the surface of the open ocean, using a bubble raft to stay afloat. It’s normally more common in warmer waters but occasionally seen here

A mauve stinger #jellyfish in front of an avenue of yellow #seaweed. This from last autumn when we had huge blooms of these jellyfish - by contrast I’ve not seen a single one this year.

Very fortunate to find another rainbow #seaslug the other day. This was the smallest I’ve seen - about the size of a grain of rice (next to my fingertip for scale).

Sea fog around the #Cornwall coast this morning at sunrise. Another stunning start to the day!

Cuttlefish changing colour over the sand - this is the same #cuttlefish but the sequence of photos shows how it can change its colour and texture for both camouflage and communication.

Recent beautiful autumn weather & spring low tides makes for a great chance to find wonderful #rockpool creatures - like these blue-rayed limpets, tiny cushions star (both less than 1 cm in size) and star ascidians.

Blue-rayed limpets just beneath the surface. They often gather in groups this time of year on the lower kelp to weather autumn storms.

Back in the water in #cornwall after quite a long time out and lovely to see some #cuttlefish again. Very autumnal now and pretty rocky underwater!

About a year ago we had huge blooms of these beautiful (but painful) mauve stinger #jellyfish around the #Cornwall coast. On one day strong onshore winds washed them into the lower #rockpools.

Two tiny #seaslugs from Anilao in the Philippines: Favorinus tsuruganus, which feeds on the eggs of other sea slugs, and a Shaun the sheep nudibranch. Amazing how tiny these creatures are, barely visible to a naked eye.

Have you ever seen an #octopus clean and then use the toilet? This individual was outside its den so I set a #gopro to record its behaviour. From Patmos, #Greece. Plenty more film and photos to follow if the trip.

Recently back from a holiday in #Greece, Patmos Island with a bunch of videos and photos from underwater. One of the highlights was the wonderful #octopus.

A beautiful Polycera #seaslug in the shallow waters in a lower #rockpool in #cornwall. Love seeing these creatures.

Some compass #jellyfish from the last week or so in #cornwall. They’ve come and gone a lot this year and conditions in the water have been very up and down again, with huge jumps in water temperature.

Some #macro shots of little crabs in the #rockpools - a baby edible crab and common hermit crab. Taken on an iPhone with a DiveVolk housing and macro lens.

I wrote this article for Reflections to accompany some of my images on the changes happening to the wildlife around the Cornish coast including some of the new species we’re seeing here

A tiny Facelina auriculata #seaslug from a little earlier this year in a #rockpool. One of the most beautiful species we get here.

Very happy to have seen my first crystal jelly of the year - they were once rare to see in the uk but are now common around #Cornwall in the summer.

The #seaweed is looking beautiful right now around the #cornwall coast. This is rainbow wrack, which is a bright iridescent blue-green when it catches the light

The comb jellies have arrived inshore in #Cornwall now - always amazing to watch them shimmer with their iridescence in the sunshine.

A little stalked jellyfish in a #rockpool just beneath the surface. Apparently these kaleidoscope ones can cartwheel to new seaweeds when they want to move!
