Can we get as many eyes on this as possible? Archaeology in the US is likely at risk. It has been for a while. I don't like fear mongering, but all aspects of cultural work and preservation could change for the worse.

Hard agree here. One of my continuing frustrations with political debates to the left of the center is that few people seem to seriously consider the elephant in the room: the incredibly perverse information environment and how one deals with it.
the democratic party’s basic problem is it has almost no control over how its message reaches the ears of voters, especially outside of presidential election years. but rather than devote serious time, attention and cash to that problem its consultants and pundits want to fight factional battles

Here's a photo of my friend and colleague, Jorge Bautista, getting shot in the face with a flashbang grenade. The ICE Agent is so afraid of Jorge (who was posing no threat) that he has wet himself. Please share this photo. Everyone needs to know what cowards ICE agents are.

Americans would be wise to understand what the Stasi was. The East German secret police "sought to infiltrate every institution of society and every aspect of daily life," with files on 6 million citizens, more than 1/3rd of the population. The Trump regime is building its version of the Stasi. 1/2

I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

When people say "We used to drink raw milk from our own cow and it was fine,"

That's... usually not the case!

In families w their own cow, the mom usually boiled it before using.

We just forgot bc that's a boring chore that mom did. And who pays attention to that?

So if you remember that frustrating article a couple of weeks ago at the Dispatch suggesting that we ought to save the sciences by shoving the humanities overboard, I wrote a response to the financial illiteracy and moral cowardice of that position: thedispatch.com/article/univ...

Why splitting the sciences and humanities—and appeasing Trump—won’t work.

NEW from me: The GOP megabill will add $171 billion to immigration enforcement and ICE, a gigantic sum that'll pour funds into a vast network of detention + hire thousands of ICE agents and fund sheriffs.

I talked to an expert on just what to expect:
