It’s a lot more fun to talk about the Cure than Morton Downey Jr., is partially what’s going on imho
As a child of the 80s, this applies both culturally and aesthetically. Remembrances make the 80s look like a Duran Duran video. In reality everything was dark and largely brown. Also: it was really the 1970s until about 1984 or so, but that's another conversation.

As someone who grew up in the ‘80s, I’m annoyed by nostalgia for that era because, sure, there were some cool highlights. But the overall popular culture was not those things and it was mostly unpleasant garbage that we’ve just forgotten about or buried.

I’ll die mad at Chris Christie for canceling the ARC tunnel project for the sole purpose of giving Obama the finger. This “tunnels are woke” bullshit and so much other nonsense is the direct result, and meanwhile Jersey commuters will be screwed for a generation.

It was extremely stupid (see freedom fries) but the current discourse tends to way overplay the idea that very few people knew the truth or saw what was happening at the time. Was there elite consensus? Yes. Did opponents get called names? Yes. Despite that, were there massive protests? Also yes.
I was too young to be ware of the Iraq invasion debate but was it this degree of stupid? It can't have been this stupid.

For the most part, leading Democrats are ducking what is fast becoming the first real litmus test of the 2028 campaign: former President Biden's mental acuity.

Some Democrats argue their leaders aren’t owning up to the truth about Biden — and risk keeping the issue alive indefinitely.

The people lighting our country and the world on fire claim to love sci fi but can’t understand anything they read or watch
nerds who are too into scifi can get a bit weird, but the thing about these guys is that it's more that they read one scifi short story when they were 13 and nothing else

He’s the co-host of a self-described “patriotic podcast” that has done one episode on British colonialism in India and one on British colonialism in the Caribbean, out of hundreds. As an American I’m not familiar with him as a media personality but I’m also not surprised he’s this way.
when I worked for the bad commercial podcast, they interviewed Tom Holland and I was there to record. Tom dressed like the world's most divorced Radiohead fan and made me turn off the recorder so he could say "the west needs to force an Enlightenment on Islam at gunpoint." I am…just saying,
Hadley is the only pundit in the country that I’ve heard audibly trembling with hate so intense, that I thought she was going to lose it completely live on Times Radio, which is what this guy is talking about. A true believing psycho.

NEW: New Jersey lost more than $200 million in the budget deal Congress just cut.

This was money for flooding clean-up, first responders, transportation, food, veterans and more.

I would read the heck out of a book analyzing how selling out went from the worst thing you could possibly do to seemingly everyone’s highest aspiration.
I know I lost this battle long ago, but ... the sight of Harrison Ford exploiting martial imagery in order to sell Jeeps for some global megacorp just makes me want to vomit.

Remember in the 90s, how there was cultural pressure not to sell out? I think I'm the only one who took that seriously!
