Found the actual men in women's bathrooms assaulting women.
ICE agents illegally break into a woman's bathroom in a NY nutrition bar manufacturing plant. "Pull up your pants," says a male agent. The agents only had a warrant to review employer documents. They didn't have a warrant to search for, detain, or arrest anyone there.

bari weiss saw this and decided that she had to hide it from the american public
Guards began beating him. Beat him until he bled. Knocked his face into the wall, broke all his teeth. No access to outdoors, no contact with relatives.

Now describing US knowledge of CECOT's torture practices, followed by footage of Trump praising those practices.

It’s really strange the vice president of the United States is a white supremacist, who says white supremacist slogans, who publicly praises and follows the work of white supremacists, and it’s simply not mentioned or discussed in political media

really cannot be emphasized enough that bari weiss has literally never done journalism. i don’t mean that in the pejorative sense. i mean that in the “has never performed the job she was hired to do” sense
One explanation for Bari killing the story is that she did so as a public act of fealty to the administration. But another is that, as an inexperienced journalist, she doesn’t understand that a refusal to go on the record is a kind of comment in and of itself

Extra wild sprinkles on the bananas sundae of citation--and as thread notes, it's automated from Google scholar's end, not the library's fault
When viewing the fake article in Google scholar on my university network, there is a link to access the article via my uni's library. That link sends me to a library page that makes fake article appear real... Turns out library page is made programmatically from info on Google scholar 🤦

Absolutely on point. The research process is invaluable in honing these skills. If someone doesn’t care to do research, or never learns, they will never understand what history actually entails. As the OP notes, they will also lack an ability to find offline sources and produce new knowledge.
A big part of being a historian is being a detective! Who did this? Why? Where? Why does it matter in the grand scheme of things? You have to learn how to probe, how to uncover, how to read against the grain, how to find unusual sources, how to interpret those sources. How to piece together a puzzle
It also robs students of learning *how* to research.

One of the central tenets of AI artists is that their refining prompts makes them equal (or even superior) to any artist, analog or digital.

They are so, so close to a breakthrough but they always U-turn just in time to avoid it.

fwiw, for me the whole discourse about AI "summarizing" materials comes from the idea that doing the Humanities is "easy" and books/ articles are simply information conveyance mechanisms, not the thing they are - knowledge creation machines with nuanced arguments

Absolutely right.

AI might be able to summarize (poorly) what we currently know, but a major goal of historical research is to find the hidden surprises out there.

Let me illustrate …
Not a historian but like to research. The AI might summarize what I'm looking for, but it doesn't find what I'm *not* looking for. The book on the shelf next to the one I wanted. The insight in chapter 6 based on the quote I needed from chapter 4.

I was unaware of the use of AI assets as “placeholders” in Clair Obscur until recently. 1) I think I’ll need to follow games news a bit more closely before a purchase and 2) I probably won’t support Sandfall moving forward. Maybe it sounds “ridiculous” to some, but I don’t think it is.

A big reason this is bad is it could let the Future Forward Super PAC escape any accountability for the 2024 loss. It had hundreds of millions of dollars in donor money, and the DNC report was reportedly going to fault them. Now this will remain undisclosed:

This would not have passed if those chickenshit Dems Davis, Cellar, and Gonzalez had not voted for it. They voted to put the parents of trans youth in prison for ten years.

Primary them all.
Just now, a national trans healthcare felony ban for youth has passed the US House, with 10 year prison terms.

3 Dems crossed party lines to vote to jail providers.

4 GOP crossed party lines to vote against.

It is not expected to pass the Senate, where Dems hold filibuster power.

Story to come.
