Taken together with other events of this past year, the message acceptance of this deal is that
1) Illegally invading is a viable way to achieve strategic goals, with very few lasting consequences
2) The only sure guarantee of security is having nuclear weapons
This excellent WSJ annotation of the Molotov/Ribbentrop … sorry, Witkoff/Dmitriev … “peace deal” for Ukraine shows how ridiculously vague and utterly unworkable this thing is

“Orthodoxy” is *A* way to say “the consensus backed by studies of every scientist in the relevant fields.” Do better, @nytimes.com
Breaking News: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he personally instructed the CDC to abandon its position that vaccines do not cause autism. The move underscores his determination to challenge scientific orthodoxy — in this case, that vaccines save lives — and bend the health department to his will.

In an interview, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. cited gaps in vaccine safety research. His critics say he is ignoring a larger point: Vaccines save lives.

Putin understands that crossing the nuclear threshold would shatter what remains of his leverage, unite the West even further, and invite catastrophic consequences.

His bluster is a symptom of weakness, not strength. The world should treat it accordingly: with vigilance, but without fear.
