Sunday, at least 7 ICE agents stormed a house and took an elderly man out into the freezing cold, wearing only his underwear and a blanket.

He was a member of the Hmong community, which came to the area from Laos in the 1970s after siding with the US in the Vietnam War.

Dang, that's crazy.

Anyway, we moved our annual refugee resettlement fundraiser to Bluesky this spring, after running it entirely on Twitter for over a decade, started with ZERO followers, took our "shrunken" audiences and beat last year's total by $200,000 in a time of massive economic upheaval
One of the biggest mistakes left-of-center pundits and influencers made was decamping to Bluesky. They made themselves irrelevant, shrunk their audiences, and dramatically lessened the positive impact they could have on our public debate at the precise time we needed it most.

To be fair they are too ignorant to recognize the historical resonance.
There's no better way to observe MLK Day than to go on the news and insist that the civil rights protesters objecting to police brutality are actually "paid agitators"
Rep. Byron Donalds: "These agitators -- who by the way are paid, folks. America, they are paid to do this kind of mess."

Deserve means nothing in this sport. But McDermott did not *deserve* to lose his job based on his performance this year. But a fresh restart was probably necessary. That Brandon Beane is staying, based on what he put together this season, is dumbfounding

It’s actually better to score a touchdown on 4th and Goal than any earlier down. It makes the defense feel the worst.

It’s a methods vs objectives debate. The methods are irrelevant when your objective is to deport everyone here illegally. It requires inhumane methods to meet that objective.
This Douthat column suggests there's some softer version of mass deportations out there, but again, there isn't. The violence and brutality are of necessity embedded in the policy agenda itself, as I try to argue (see piece and thread below):

The more I think about this, the angrier I get. It takes a particularly virulent strain of sociopathy to sit and let hard-working people serve you a meal knowing that you plan to arrest them and send them off for deportation once they're off of work.

Really depraved shit.
A few days ago, Fox News was whining about ICE agents getting heckled at a Mexican restaurant in Minneapolis.

Meanwhile, in the town of Willmar, ICE agents had lunch at a Mexican restaurant, waited until it closed, then confronted and arrested three workers as they left.

What ICE is doing is literally the definition of terrorism. They are terrorizing cities and neighborhoods so immigrants will self-deport out of misery or fear. This shouldn’t be controversial. The Trump administration boasts about it.
