I've been here a few weeks and realize I never introduced myself:

I'm Mel. I'm a teaching artist and technical consultant (I help artists like their computers and design workflows). Folks here might remember me from 2600/HOPE or just being mouthy on Twitter or, if I'm lucky, my art!
@rickyftw.bsky.social my other half has been spending some time messing around with Labubus in his art and couldn't help himself after watching yesterday's episode. He's been making all kinds of weird stuff like this. I call them Labozos.

You are fantastic. You are a moment of profound realization. You are the resilience of a water bear. You are a gothic film with practical effects. You are a labyrinth formed of ancient hedges, populated by eldritch hedgehogs and talking capybaras in top hats.

Fascist regimes thrive on propaganda, fear, and the erosion of critical thought. By reclaiming the narrative through verified information and public discourse, societies can resist normalization of authoritarian control and preserve civic freedoms.

Just a reminder that America will in fact crush fascism.

It will take a while and it will be messy.
But bet on it.

This is genocide.
There is no die process. This treatment is intentionally dehumanizing.
The people making the Hitler comparisons are right.
“One young man sobbed when a guard pushed him to the floor. He said, ‘I’m not a gang member. I’m gay. I’m a barber.’ I believed him. *** He “began to whimper,” as his head was roughly shaved, “folding his hands in prayer as his hair fell.” He “asked for his mother & cried as he was slapped again.”

I am begging blue state governors to have lunch this week with your adjutant general of the National Guard.

Cannot stress enough how important this relationship is going to be in the near future.

The distance between a legal resident who's not a citizen being deported without due process and a citizen being deported without due process is a hell of a lot shorter than many folks seem to believe, and when it does happen to a citizen, just remember it started here and who was quiet in response.

Eyes always
On the trees
That your love is not lost

I want to say
It will outlast them all
Dig roots into the
Earth below

Let them die by
Their own hands
This will
Still be here

Will we?
I always wonder
How near the end we are

And keep my
Eyes forever locked
On the nectar in
These roots

Politics hasn't been this simple in a long time: do you think it's good for one man to exercise unchecked, arbitrary power or not. Those are the two available ideologies right now

On the subject of people traveling to the US right about now: Fuck, if I were from another country and I didn't need to come, I sure as hell wouldn't, the current administration has made it clear traveling here isn't safe, and why not take them at their word, there's a whole world to visit

It’s hard to reconcile the “they’ll go after ideologies they don’t like next” talk with the fact they’ve been openly targeting a whole suite of them associated with Black scholarship already. They’ve already threatened to defund any university teaching critical race theory. Why doesn’t that count?

My poodle puppy is 8 months old this week. She has taught herself to set traps.

I walked into the kitchen last night and whispered, "Clever girl."

Tonight, no Senate Democrats voted for the ban on trans girls and young women participating in sports, and it failed cloture. The prevailing reasoning was far less about trans equality and far more about preventing genital exams of girls and young women. Don't be surprised when the GOP tries again.
