People online who are looking forward to the return of Adam Page's old theme song, I get it. But I love, love, love the theme he's used for the past few years. It's an All-Timer.

Probably gonna butcher this, but Mitch is talking about his heavy metal band.

"People either loved us or hated us. Or they thought we were okay."
Everyone has one Mitch Hedberg joke stashed in their brain like a squirrel to sustain them whenever they need to feel joy for 30 seconds and mine is “they say the recipe for Sprite is Lemon and Lime but I tried to make it at home, there’s more to it than that”

Wild that people spend a little money to buy books written by obscure authors published by a small press based out of some guy’s house and then they get the books in the mail one day and read them and like them and in many cases go back to the website and order more books.

Listening to "I Ran" by A Flock of Seagulls on the way to a wedding.

My partner:

Me: You know, this is their "Holiday in Cambodia"?

Dear reader, was it the flavor of Strawberry Starburst Sparkling Ice or that I said, "This (drink) slaps!" that made my partner scowl and shake her head?

You read my mind, A.D. Although, for myself, I must amend number 7:

The no-budget movie adaptation of my novel that ends up in Tubi's Cult Classics, alongside Samurai Cop and Miami Connection.
the seven layers of writing:
1. writing I publicly share
2. writing stashed in my docs
3. notebook brainstorming
4. writing I gush about to 2-3 people
5. character lore
6. non-canon daydreams that get me through the day
7. imaginary high budget adaptation of my novel I fall asleep to every night

Replaying Celeste and trying to get all the strawberries. Struggling on the first level, naturally. How to get what will be my 8th strawberry? Reluctantly, I look up a guide.

Oh god, oh no.

This should be my 13th strawberry.

Save and quit.

The original thread is required reading, and I agree with May here on writing being disrespected.

Additional thoughts below.
This is such a great thread and point about generative AI.

Writing is profoundly disrespected as a craft, a skill, and an art. So many people assume that both writing and critiquing fiction require basically nothing, that anyone who identifies as “smart” can do it. It’s MADDENING.
The problem with writing is that a) everyone thinks they could definitely write a book if they [just tried/had time/were a dweeb like you, the professional writer] and b) very few people are satisfied merely to write. We want our writing to be read, or the process isn't complete.

"I'm totally opposed to the Kick Me in the Head Machine. It's unethical and destructive. But now that we rely on the Kick Me in the Head Machine, what else are we supposed to do?"
“Massive numbers of students are going to emerge from university with degrees, and into the workforce, who are essentially illiterate…Both in the literal sense and in the sense of being historically illiterate and having no knowledge of their own culture, much less anyone else’s.”
