Okay, let me start a new #HouseMusic thread.

First thing's first: I need to post a few junts by the legendary Ron Carroll, who passed away two Sundays ago. RIP!

Here's a classic soulful track with Hardsoul:

During a tech bubble you don't need to make sure that whatever you're selling "is working", you just need a minimum viable demo and a herd of panicking investors afraid of losing out.

It was like this in 1998/99.

Circa 1993, Vernor Vinge wrote that the first working AI would be the last thing that humanity ever invented.

We don't *have* a first working AI, and at this rate—shifting the global economy to run atop spicy autocomplete trained on 4chan—we never will.

But Vernor was right. Just forget "working".

Today is International Men’s Day.

An ICE employee was among 16 men arrested after trying to solicit a minor for sex in Bloomington, Minnesota, police say

"When he was arrested, he said, 'I'm ICE, boys,'" Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges said during a press conference. "Well, unfortunately for him, we locked him up."

Rami and Lubna have been verified as Palestinians in need of aid by many including actual journalism.

This condition is something in my family. My father had a worse form of it and as a result of poverty in childhood did not get the care he needed and suffered life long impairment as a result.

As someone who started doing youth work over 20 years ago it's heartening to see reports like this but it's also infuriating because we've been beating this drum for my entire life. I'm 42. There is no time in my life that we did not know this. Never.
The safest communities are the ones with the most resources, not the most police.

Local leaders in DC need to invest in real safety solutions that reach people with the resources they need when they need them most.

I think if you can reach enough people the audience is there. I'm always writing for the person who likes what I write. I wouldn't take as many risks as I do if was thinking about the audience more than I was thinking about hurting myself and making myself cry through writing. 😂

Not the way I write. So my biggest hurdle is not the readers or the audience but rather I think reaching them. I think an audience is something you can cultivate and grow by people discovering your work. Yes, there's the approach of tapping into a pool that exists but if you're anything outside +

I write for myself cuz I am able to identify stories I need or want to read, or issues I want to see handled in a certain way. I believe since there are millions of people around that I'm not the only one who will be interested in the way I've handled it. My biggest foe is visibility/distribution. +

I've been asked this question at events. Do you write for the audience and my question in response is, who is the audience? What is the audience? Do you mean what is "expected" by western readers? Do you mean what a certain magazine seems to buy? What's trending with publishers? Is it a monolith?
Been pondering the "write for yourself / no, write for an audience" convos I've seen going around. This obviously varies for everyone, but for me it's "write for myself, edit for an audience." I can't finish a project unless I retreat into a bubble and pretend nobody will ever read it--
