Just so we're clear: the daily bike traffic here is the equivalent of one crush capacity line 1 subway at rush hour.
I had no idea that there was counter near Yonge and Davisville. Good to confirm my anecdotal experience that there are more cyclists around the last couple of years.

It failed its business case. We need to go back to the drawing board. We need frequent, reliable transit on the eastern Waterfront. A 509 extension is not a good option. We can and should do better.
Future Waterfront East streetcar right of way on Ookwemin Minising island. We really need the Federal Government to help get this project funded.

Pathetic lack of leadership from the mayor.
She was like where do u live and I said North York and she said u should call your local councillor and I said I don’t think Councillor Lily Cheng would want sixplexes and she said that’s why it’s important for u to call 😭😭

These two routes are happening. It's for the World Cup. The public consultation is for show.
Starting this week, the City of Toronto is undergoing consultations on two transit-only surface routes, one on Dufferin, the other on Bathurst.

These surface transit routes won’t happen unless the public shows up. Click below to find a consultation near you.

(and support @ttcriders.bsky.social !!)
Tired of unreliable, slow, and overcrowded bus and streetcar service?

Toronto has a plan to install transit-only lanes on Dufferin and Bathurst as early as this Fall if approved, but we need your support to ensure we can win more reliable transit!

See how you speak up for better transit ⬇️

Matt correctly points out that Sean Johnson returning to form has boosted TFC's defending. The last three matches have also seen Jonathan Osorio return to the double pivot role. And yes, it's a return. He was excellent in that role in 2020 with Mark Delgado as his partner (while Bradley was hurt).
The 2025 MLS season's about a quarter done, so now's a good time to dig into the numbers and find some that give us a bit of insight into what's going right, or maybe what's going wrong.

Don't have to look far to find some warning signs for Inter Miami.

Columbia has an almost $15B endowment. It could easily draw that down to offset lost federal revenues for four years.
Columbia University, among other changes, has agreed to "empower 36 campus police officers with new powers to arrest students," as well as to ban masks. www.wsj.com/us-news/educ...

Wouldn't be shocked if one or both of these teams play Canada as well.
Now official:

#USMNT vs. Turkey June 7, 3:30 p.m. in East Hartford, Conn. (TNT, truTV, Telemundo, Universo, Max, Peacock)

then vs. Switzerland, June 10, 8 p.m. in. Nashville (TNT, truTV, Max, Universo, Peacock)

Part of this is the age old "hewers of wood, drawers of water" problem. Part of this is branch plant mentality. But a lot of this is a super conservative corporate culture. RBC is probably not going to put "RBC should do more small business lending" in their report.

Oh, FFS.
Yikes. Imagine being the guy in 2015 who discovers a "snail darter" clone far from where it could possibly be located, and immediately realizing a DNA test will likely prove the snail darter was a faked species in 1973

What Chris ignores here is that the elite US soccer players don't play in the NCAA anymore. They're either in the MLS system or already in Europe. The NCAA has become a place for guys who got passed over and foreign talent looking to get into MLS.
I watched the NCAA men's soccer championship match on Monday night.

It was an amazing game -- won by Vermont in OT. It was also evidence of the crisis in which college soccer finds itself.

I wrote about it here: chriscillizza.substack.com/p/college-so...

Fake news. Those are clearly tricycles.

You're not getting Bombito in every SuperDraft, Colorado. Also, makes all the sense in the world for an academy focused team like Philly.
Sources: The Colorado Rapids have acquired *all* of the Philadelphia Union's SuperDraft picks for the next three seasons in exchange $350k GAM (+ performance based add ons).

Eight picks over three years, including three first round picks.

Today, Councilor Malik delayed approval of a new development in Liberty Village that has sparked backlash in the apartment neighbourhood.

A reasonable guess. Also, are we sure Line 6 isn't being delayed for political reasons right now? As the contractor has basically alleged in court?
Metrolinx CEO Phil Verster is resigning suddenly. Might be unrelated but I note here the list of topics in tomorrow's annual report from Ontario's Auditor General:

GDP was never designed to deal with intellectual property. It's obviously valuable but it's a very different form of productivity. It doesn't reflect living standards in the same way. Ireland is famous for this skew. Denmark now too. And, low key, the United States.
Yet despite Denmark's rapid GLP-1 driven growth, the country has struggled to fully translate GDP gains into rising consumption/domestic investment. The task ahead of them is clear—to continue the boom while durably translating it into general economic prosperity

One of the reasons I don't take the cost estimates for the Ontario Line seriously is that there's a lot of shared work with GO. These bridges were going to be widened for GO Expansion, for example. youtu.be/dt2boH4UK_A?...

Induced demand for trips is good. Even highway trips. It means more economic activity and social interaction. We need to build better public transit to compete for mode share not try to strangle trip demand.

I remain convinced that opening the Crosstown will be a tremendous boon to this city's psyche. If you had shown me what the map of the TTC will look like by the early 2030's in 2008, I would have leapt for joy.
A plea for Toronto residents:
What has improved in Toronto in the last 16 years? Give me your top 3 - I’m in a funk of despair at this idiotic city and pigheaded province, name me the good stuff please!!!
Thx in advance!

Pulisic perhaps forgetting the political skew of American soccer fans in that moment.
Here is Pulisic's explanation about the celly after the 1st goal.
Q: What was the goal of celebration about?
CP: "I mean you guys know, I saw everyone doing it yesterday in the NFL. I saw John Jones do it and yeah, we were just having a bit of fun, so I thought it was a pretty fun dance." (1/x)

The boomer planning consensus is shaped by the Greenwich Village fight between Jane Jacobs and Robert Moses. But they learned the wrong lessons. They think the lesson is that change is bad and what exists today is inherently better. The real lesson is that cities shouldn't be planned.
When there are two different games that are played with the system at hand for NIMBYs/naysayers, who can be freely ignorant, while YIMBYs are consistently held to higher standards, that reveals an obvious systemic bias: the system is designed to process the word “No” with ease & “Yes” with suspicion

Olivia Chow trying to gaslight the feds into giving her yet more money she doesn't deserve.
This is just an outright lie from Mayor Olivia Chow. Toronto isn't anywhere close to fulfilling its obligations under the Housing Accelerator Fund, and she and her office knows it.

Again, be very careful with 2022 mode shares. Just as an example, August TTC ridership (not including GO):

2022: 25.1M
2024: 31.1M

Not saying the cycling number is down or up. Return to office probably lifts all modes to an extent. It's just probably not the same.
"Micromobility can refer to electric bikes, mopeds, e-scooters and other small devices."
