I like The Lord of the Rings a lot but we need more bite sized swords and sorcery fantasy TV/movies. Willow is the platonic ideal of lightweight high fantasy, and Dungeons and Dragons (2023) is its spiritual successor. But overall the field seems very thin 🫤

The Dufferin & Bathurst bus priority lanes are the only way to break the transit death spiral in Toronto. They must happen & the mayor needs to make sure they’re a raging success. Mission critical as future fixes rely on their success. My column this week. Pls read n share.
Shawn Micallef: How this transit plan could finally make ‘Sufferin’ Dufferin’ a thing of the past
There are 'RapidTO' plans to create transit priority lanes on Dufferin as well as Bathurst streets.

Cars, trucks & SUVs have become driver weapons. Sometimes intentionally, sometimes in the way streets & vehicles are designed. We should admit that we are very much OK w a certain amount of death & life-changing injuries in order to not inconvenience driving. My column this week. Pls read n share.
Shawn Micallef: Vehicles have become weapons by design — and public space is in their crosshairs
A culture like ours weaponizes vehicles — from the way they are designed to the way the roads they run on are designed.

As a Jewish person it is so uniquely painful to exist in a world where Jews are the ones making lists of people for the government to target.

Just saw a post where someone said that use of em dashes (—) was a giveaway that you're using AI for writing. Uh, no. It could just mean you like to use em dashes.

This is why I’ve been telling people that we should emphasize human rights and the right to pursuing a meaningful life *first* and science *second*.
An honest question:

If we finally accept that no amount of evidence will ever sway the anti-trans side, that it is fundamentally a reactionary movement invested in punishment, suffering, and cruelty to trans people, how do we proceed?

The facts simply do not matter to them.
Using the Cass report as justification for banning puberty blockers is simply dishonest. Cass's actual findings, documented in the appendices, found PBs have been used safely for trans kids since 1988 with not a single case of harm documented in thousands of records. Cass did *not* recommend a ban.

Amazing that right after the surge of new users to Bluesky we saw regime collapse in South Korea and Syria within a few days of each other, and this website is absolutely rising to the challenge of providing informative useful coverage. Really highlights what we've been lacking on the other sites.

I think the carbon tax is a perfect example of how political compromise in the era of bad-faith politics doesn't work, so you might as well do the more-progressive, bold thing.

The Liberals put in place a price on carbon, which is really a Conservative, market-based response to climate change.

One thing I find interesting about the echo chamber complaint is that an echo chamber just won a presidential election.

Put aside the convo of whether it’s “good” or “bad” for a moment. The far right has devoted enormous resources + time to building echo chambers & loathes spaces they don’t control
The "bluesky is an echo chamber" think pieces that keep popping up really tickle me because they show how certain people genuinely believe social media should be for debating and arguing and not talking about the things that make you happy and sharing art with the world.
