This is so sadly true…
I fear there is deep truth here.

Important reading for Christians - so important to remember that the first followers of Jesus would have very much thought of themselves as Jews… link.myjewishlearning.com/e/evib?_t=1b...

This sums up perfectly the reason why billionaire philanthropy is a scam. The power stays with them. If the rich really want to help, then pay taxes gladly!

Yes yes yes!
I'm delighted when people embrace Christianity but not as a way to spiritualize conservative politics. Jesus was from an oppressed, people, owned nothing, embraced the marginalized, rejected earthly politics. Don't trivialize him or his message.

Love this. I wish we had more wisdom and less knowledge in our political reporting. Who is the monster is indeed a question worth asking!
Reminded of a line that I would say to my A Level students. Not sure who said it originally, ‘Knowledge is knowing Frankenstein is NOT the creature. Wisdom is knowing Frankenstein IS the monster’.

Wonderful skewering of the missionary / evangelistic impulse that is focussed only on ‘eternal destiny’ and doesn’t care about hungry children.
TIL that in 1843 the artist George Catlin accompanied 14 Báxoje (Iowa) on a tour of Britain, and they were so horrified by the poverty they saw everywhere that when some clerics asked to talk to them about sending missionairies among the Báxoje their leader Neumonya really let them have it.

This is so great - and really needed. The hill I will die on is that the church needs to practice offering gift in our communities - and not presuming that the kindest thing we can for anyone else in the world is to make them exactly like us.
Revd Angela Sheard & I recently discovered we had a shared passion: for a space to be opened within the Church of England for an honest, questioning, and theologically rooted conversation about the dominant language of 'growth'…

Why we need an anti-growth coalition in the Church of England

I agree with God. Every billionaire is a failure of the imagination.
Hi, I’m God.

Billionaires shouldn’t exist.

Thanks,

Yes yes yes - brilliant. My particular favourite one to ask people who ‘just do what the bible says’ is… ‘where’s your prayer shawl?’.

There is no text without interpretation. 👍
To anti-LGBTQ Christians: do you play on the sabbath, does your uniform mix different fabrics, do you eat pork? Not to mention slavery, genocide, subjugation of women. Old Testament has to be understood through the filter of Gospel love. And Jesus never mentions homosexuality.

I thought this was excellent from the mouse. In terms of the future of the Church, my tuppence is that the CofE needs to find a way of being known as a generous presence in communities, rather than a self-interested presence. Two ears, one mouth etc etc.

Hard relate.
Someone said "30 years ago", and my mind went to the 1970s, but they meant 1994, and now I need to lie down.

Oh my. This has the surprising ring in truth to it! Why though? Why!
Posting this here cos it's from the only tweet I ever bookmarked, and I'd like to be able to find it quickly now that's gone. Also because, as a writer, it kind of knocks me out.

There are calls for the UK government to take a lead in tackling disinformation. As a nation we’ve been greatly affected by it. We need John Le Carre back with us.

It’s great to see so many people moving over from the remains of Twitter. Now what about official accounts, e.g. Church of England, diocesan feeds, church feeds, ChurchTimes, and others which are virtually official, like Thinking Anglicans, etc.
