Take the Democratic Party away from Democratic leadership.
I can't stress this enough as a super volunteer for the Democratic Party and Democratic candidates. This should prompt you to get MORE involved, not less. Show up and use the existing infrastructure to make it work for all of us. In my neck of the woods, we've seen a ton of local victories this way.
Right, the answer isn't to abandon the party to these weasels.

I am in the "more context, please" group. I have no problems seeing or parsing images, but I usually read the alt anyway. If the author put effort into it, I almost always get something out of it.
Alt text is also great for people with slow internet connections, intellectual disability, dyslexia, those who just want more context for the image, etc. It’s easy to do and helpful for almost literally everyone! V important part of being a good internet citizen
Alt text is for people with vision problems. For people who can't read the text no matter what form it appears in, who use screen readers. The alt text is needed for those. That's why it was created. Also, it's just copy and paste it's way easier than describing an image, the work is done for you
