One of the things about trust is that it is efficient. It saves you having to invest a lot of time and effort in verification, and if placed in the right places, saves you a lot of pain.

"The diseases will do the education" is what we get when we don't trust.

people who are new to academia tend to find its obsession with sources and citations a brake on their "i'm just trying to be CREATIVE, man" mindset. but it turns out the relentless obsession with accuracy, citation, and *provenance* is a load-bearing pillar of the whole enterprise

To that end what makes it a truck? Yes I’ve read the definition of a truck and the gymnastics the Tesla goes thru to call it a truck.

But as far as I can tell it’s just a shitty car with a slightly larger trunk that identifies as a truck
My mom and I just drove past a cybertruck and she’d never heard of one and she said “what makes it cyber?” 😂

Do you remember the famous #Earthrise photo from #Apollo8? On Christmas Eve in 1968, William Anders turned his camera toward Earth and captured the legendary photo. It showed humans a new perspective, with the moon in the foreground and Earth floating in distant space. 🌎🚀🔭📸

I can’t pretend this is a festive suggestion as I’m not sure that a book about the trial of a woman who poisoned her in-laws is a tactful Christmas present, but The Mushroom Tapes: Conversations on a Triple Murder Trial by Helen Garner, Chloe Hooper and Sarah Krasnostein is just too brilliant 1/4

I shall now withdraw for a bit and return as we near the New Year 🎄

I leave you with the undying words of Jerome K. Jerome:

'It always is Christmas Eve, in a ghost story.'

Have a happy Christmas!
