“Kill all boats no matter where they are going or what they possess” isn’t a strategy, it’s just a killing spree
WELKER: Is there any hard evidence showing this particular boat was headed to the US?

TOM COTTON: That didn't come up in my briefing

WELKER: Are you comfortable having the US target a boat that you're not sure is heading to the US?

COTTON: I'm not just comfortable with it -- I want to continue it

One of the implicit suggestions of the original Blade Runner, Blade Runner 2049, and Ex Machina is that tech bros invented AI out of a desire to own a women that it’s okay to sexually and emotionally brutalize without facing any legal consequences.

That seems to be COMPLETELY accurate.

Since Me Too men have loved to explain to me that “there’s a difference” between types of sexual misconduct, that harassment is different from assault is different from rape. I know these differences. It’s just that women judge them to assess our safety and men judge

Trump: "Why do you always mention, you know, a couple of little businesses. What about the car business?"

Fascinating article. What leaps out is most cis women understand how femininity is defined -- and we choose to embody all, part, or none of it. But the inability to even define masculinity as anything other than the opposite of femininity has proven destructive to men and women alike
ICYMI: "Masculinity!" Is it Man's eternal essence? A euphemism for "patriarchy?" A scam to sell shaving products? (It's definitely that last one, actually.) I got to talk to trans feminists Talia Bhatt, Raewyn Connell and Thomas Page McBee about what it all means: xtramagazine.com/power/politi...

For the better part of the last decade, a great many people have tried really hard to make Donald Trump make sense in some broader political and historical context. But at the end of the day he's exactly what he appears to be: a rich psycho who's failed at everything in life except self-promotion.

I for one am amazed that allowing the world's stupidest man to bellow like an idiot while swinging a sledgehammer into every surface encountered has not fixed all of our problems but has instead made all problems worse and caused new ones. It makes no sense; he had the longest tie, the goldest hair.

the entire political project of the american right is to create a hierarchy with protected in-groups and punished out-groups. there is no moral nor political upside in meeting them half way on any of those out-groups. the only people in a bubble are those who deny that hierarchy is their agenda

The Democrats have limped off the field while complaining to the refs. What's next? Some very good ideas are here:
We should think about what comes next, and the messages for a team that actually wants to play—and not only to play, but to play to win.
I'd like to think about that team now.

Brian's opinions are almost always on point, but this one hits the bullseye by articulating exactly what is rankling so many level-headed Dem voters. We understand the limitations of minority status, but are infuriated by the timidity and misdirected focus of most Dem politicians
If they did just a few things, and changed affect just enough, to convey that they get it, constituents wouldn’t be burning up their phone lines and they’d have no reason to go whine to Axios about their voters. This is an attempt to sketch out what that might look like.
