low stakes posting today reminds me that 1) Facebook is for talking to people you know IRL but don’t like and 2) microblogging sites are for talking to people you don’t know but do like.

we forget these things at our peril

This is both FANTASTIC messaging and seriously bleak.

Major theory on the right these days holds that remedying racial discrimination is itself discrimination against whites.

Anyways here’s Andrew Johnson defending his 1866 veto of a law to stop Southern whites from replacing slavery with a literal racial caste system

I am planning on going to No Kings gathering this weekend in central Texas. And since I was terminated by MSNBC a few weeks ago, can someone let me know where to pick up paycheck that GOP keeps talking about. I have asked many folks going to No Kings, and none are getting paid.

As a University of California employee and legal writing prof—applause for this complaint!
I'd like to commend the lawyers who wrote this complaint on behalf of the professors and employees of the University of California against the Trump administration.

It's a sober legal document with strong claims, but also, this is a fight for public opinion, and this reads like the writers know it.

We're witnessing the most aggressive, fanatical crackdown on free speech in my lifetime. The speed and breadth of government censorship and private sector and nonprofit capitulation has been astonishing. As has the lack of urgency/silence from people who've long claimed to care about this stuff.

Just a reminder of my favorite idea for a law student note: Pick an important Supreme Court case from 5-10 years ago, and see how lower courts are interpreting it. It's helpful for practitioners and courts, and something law students can research and present effectively.

and who also can ask the people who are spending the money to confirm they are spending the money as directed.

Trying to think of a good name for this sort of congress of people who would vote on and investigate how money gets spent … 🤔

Any suggestions?

The “illegal alien” part was never about immigration itself. It was about the racist idea that some people are inherently foreigners, never able to integrate with the superior race.

The Nazis said this about Jews. They took our citizenship away as well.

It is not just racist, it is genocidal.
The White House has ordered the US Dept. of Justice to prioritize denaturalization: voiding the citizenship of US citizens.

Who will it denaturalize? "Any" case that it "determines to be sufficiently important".

Point 10 leaves the criteria opaque and arbitrary.

Unlike S Miller or presumably Trump, Rubio knows goddamn well that this is *wrong*. (Arbitrarily halting student-visa interviews)

He opposed things like this back when he had the guts to run against Trump.

Sometimes Trump's slur-nicknames are apt. Little Marco.
