My mom is an immigrant from Barbados. We are descendants of enslaved people. My grandma left everything behind on her birthday, not because she wanted to leave Barbados but because her children did not have enough to eat and didn't always have shoes. My grandpa had to beg for money at the big house.

The Swiss town of Blatten was destroyed yesterday. The few buildings that survived the 3.5 million cubic metres of landslide are now slowly drowning as the collapsed mountain damns the river.
