caving to the right on healthcare for the nth year in a row doesn't make you guys smart campaigners. it makes you insulated cowards who would rather buff the shoes of a pharma exec for cash than be a voice for your own people, which is the job you literally swore to do, "so help me god."
But there are real dangers out there that must be fought; and energy spent fighting each other is energy lost to that bigger fight.

big uptick lately in students reaching out for [redacted] this past month and today i figured out why: someone has been intentionally sending them my way as a minor passive-aggressive protest against a bigger departmental thing. this is vague by necessity. but man did realizing make me laugh

it is interesting to live in hong kong, where i am a minority but not any kind of oddity, and then to go across the border and have people stop and take photographs with me without permission while i stand waiting for a didi. like okay. i guess my students can see me on xhs later like a jumpscare

The fascination with villains and antiheroes also has a lot to do with feelings of alienation, whether from family or society in general or even alienation from one's own body. Dark characters are much more free to express themselves in ways heroes aren't usually allowed.

there's a family in philly being threatened with deportation and the parents have been here 20 years, originally as refugees. i see comments like "20 years and still not legal???" and i wonder how you look at that story + that number and can't IMMEDIATELY see that the problem MUST be with the system

i believe in open borders with no caveats. no “they can come if they do it the right way”. anyone who arrives can stay, period. the united states had completely unrestricted borders until 1875, and you’ll recognize that most immigrants who arrived before that year came from northern/western europe
