Fully half of the budget for acquiring new books and materials could be cut. CPL currently has $10 million to spend on books and materials. The 2026 budget leaves them with $5 million.

Have now seen two stories from major local broadcast outlets in Chicago repeating a claim by DHS that shots were fired and paint cans/bricks were thrown today in Little Village, with the only "evidence" being a post from the agency on a nazi website. This is more than irresponsible.

Tonight was the inaugural ride of our new home buyout program. We connect with vendors too scared to be out, and we purchase from them at home. Tonight we bought 250 tamales, divided into 3 teams to deliver all over the city to folks on the street, Love Fridges, and a youth shelter.

It's going to be a few minutes before the house resumes on the floor so this is now an AMA about what's going on.
At 7:45: the Executive committee has recess and took no vote (there is no bill text to vote on; HCA3 has not been filed yet). They voted 8-4 yesterday to recommend the dead on arrival (HCA2). HCA3 is a floor amendment. So no committee hearing is needed. You'll see this next on the house floor.
At 6:45, SB2111 is now being discussed, thread on the subject mater hearing to follow here.

A Sunday morning read: I wrote a deeply personal essay on what it was like to see a fellow Chicagoan taken by ICE, how it connects to Latin-America's long history of desaparecidos, and how we can mobilize theory, particularly faith, into action.
