"hostages swapped like Panini football stickers, 20 Israelis for 1700 Palestinian detainees. Not entirely sure what the difference is, but I’m sure someone on TalkTV would be happy to shout it at me."

Wow. Just wow. Labour laws incapable of defending civil liberties.
Police in Canterbury today informed a protestor that the phrase "Israel is committing genocide in Gaza" could be considered a declaration of support for Palestine Action and therefore a terrorism offence.

If the UK did only some of the things former UK diplomat @alexhh.bsky.social suggests then things in Gaza / Palestine would get a bit better. It's nuts that we're not doing these things, but instead talking about Glastonbury and making protest=terrorism
Rant alert. Mega rant alert. How about our leaders stop wringing hands, issuing feeble denunciations, and actually DO something? Stop the moral equivalency. Stop pretending we’re helpless. There’s plenty we could do if genuinely committed. Here’s some suggestions for starters. 🧵

One of the things that enrages me about Labour’s approach is the reality that immigration hysteria is *entirely manufactured*

Farage has used it to flog every con and it’s been in the tabloids, daily, for ten years. To the point that now even some Labour voters defend it.

It’s fucking MADE UP.

Pre-Brexit, I described to an elderly lady/supporter from Cornwall how much I love the UK & truly felt at home there, expecting her to be pleased about the praise. Instead, she said (somewhat coolly) that she's no problem with that provided I leave when told to. I though of that when I read this.

I think I'm a pretty ordinary person and I find Starmer's words very offensive. My electrician son's very close friend is a Filipino nurse, my nephew's girlfriend is Vietnamese, my great nephew is half Jamaican. My daughter lives in Hackney and seems to have friends from all over, no strangers here.

Less than a year after the country saw racist riots, I'm deeply concerned to see the PM following Reform's agenda.

We all want to live in united communities but that requires investment.

And won't be helped by divisive rhetoric.

Starmer said that the U.K. had been a “lab” for an “experiment” in mass immigration, a lab he was closing. So, he argues, we were guinea pigs; ‘others’ were experimenting on us. These words came out of his mouth - and he has a brain - so unless a fool, he understood their implication.

The thing is, for those of us with a stake in this, it’s unconscionable. I’m not an immigrant - but I’m married to an immigrant and have a number of immigrants in the family. To effectively accuse them all of doing incalculable damage to the U.K. hits home.

If Labour think I’m going to be blackmailed into voting for them to “see off Farage” in 2029, after they’ve spent 5 years wasting their huge majority & dancing to Farage’s racist tune & chickening out of doing anything meaningful that would actually halt the fascist creep…

They are so wrong.
What upsets me the most it will people like my late Dad who will suffer the consequences of @yvettecooper-mp.bsky.social populist anti migration policy of care workers. Dementia patients and those who are chronically ill. It will mean care homes will suffer with shortages. All to pander to Farage.
