“I have no professional interest in people looking at my face” is, not to be dramatic about it or anything, an idea for which I am willing to live and die
and god I mean, more broadly - I resent this idea that someone has to look at me to follow what I'm saying, I like writing and I like talking on the radio and on podcasts, I have no professional interest in people looking at my face, leave me alone

Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing a text, writing an email, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can’t do things we’ve been doing since the dawn of time.

There’s a lot of people who want to fight fascism yet won’t wear a mask

Fascism & eugenics go hand in hand. They’re coming for the disabled and chronically ill

Wearing a mask shows solidarity with disabled people, while also protecting your health so you’re better equipped for the fight

For me science fiction is a way of wanting justice. Imagining worlds less broken.

In our world, Zora Neale Hurston died in poverty, her world-changing words almost forgotten. I love that Star Trek Discovery carried her spirit forward in the name of the ship's brilliant anthropologist-computer.

Currently watching TNG for the first time and my crush on Data seems to make my partner genuinely jealous (though it’s turning more into amusement). Oddly enough I pick a character to crush on for most shows we watch, but Data is the only character my partner has shown jealousy towards.😂

This is why having a government strong enough to regulate and hold accountable corporate malfeasance is necessary.

Maybe there's a reason why corporate-captured politicians love "small" government. They don't like it small, they like it ineffective.
Here’s the thing about the tariffs: there will be no “short term pain”. Only long term. Every time a company realizes they can get away with charging you extra they don’t ever lower the price again. They just gouge. Whatever price hikes there are will be here for good.

Just finished The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez during my lunch break at work, and all I want to do is curl up into a ball and process the beauty of the world and story I just experienced…. But I have to clock back in and be normal about it for a few more hours.

Ache first, yes, but then let the cuts close.
Spit out the blood. Watch your body pull itself
back together, in spite of the lost wings,
the stolen bones, the halted songs.

Watch your body pull itself back together,
then let your soul do the same. - Keaton St.James

worth saying again these these unilateral cuts are illegal. neither trump nor musk has the authority to unilaterally slash appropriated funds.
Hearing that the DOGE chaos hurricane is hitting HUD soon, and the plan is to devastate federal housing funding. Let's be clear: this would cause a cascade of catastrophic impacts nationwide, shutting down housing and dumping families into the street.

After the enthusiastic response to my posts yesterday on Gertrude Stein's poodles (collectively) named Basket, I did some digging & realized we could curate an entire show around art devoted to these beloved companion animals. So, without further ado, a proposal for BASKET: THE EXHIBITION (thread)
