If you’re naming me in the same breath as TTRPG studies then you should be following and listening to and citing Professor Torner who has done more for analog game infrastructure than any one person can comprehend. (Any number of us shine from reflecting Evan’s light)
Indeed. The purchaseable *product* we call the TTRPG begins in the 1970s with Western Gunfight, Chainmail, and D&D.

Yet role-playing "parlor games," simulations, and similar are centuries old and draw from a well that resembles all the positive stuff about D&D.

Parlor games were feminized...

My thought experiment on what a TTRPG expirience based on the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald would look like got covered!

Wasn’t expecting this honor but definitely something to check off from my bucket list.

The Gales of November
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald. Its tragic story was the focus of folk-rock artist Gordon Lightfoot’s 1976 ballad, “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald....

Super cool that Affinity has stopped allowing you to buy their software around the same time my free trial expired.

Was trying to avoid paying a subscription fee for InDesign, much less reformat the projects I was working on, but here we are.

Something that’s amazed me in reading through the Daggerheart Core Rulebook is the dedication to “shared storytelling first”. Shows up in both mechanics and GM guidance.

It’s definitely something DnD tried to do in 5e 2024, but seems antithetical to the brand and continued ties to wargaming.

The eye exam is the perfect game design. That big E is a great tutorial that teaches you the basic mechanic. But it doesn't baby you and quickly gets hard as they introduce the small and blurry enemies.

2025 means making clickbait memes for a better world!
"I don't normally do this, but I had to share"

Someone in the Designed in the DMV Discord made this clickbait meme ad for The Bonsai Diary after someone else shared how they talked about the game with their therapist.

🤣 (for the ad not the therapy)

Just ran #EatTheReich as the first session of my Sunday Scaries TTRPG series and hoo buddy did the players understand the assignment. I think everyone involved needed that cathartic release due to the month DC has had.

Now it's back to ruin your second wedding.

It Didn't Say Anywhere In The Rules That A Dog COULDN'T Play Basketball is this month's comedy horror one-page TTRPG.

Earlier this year I started a series of blog posts about how board games are amazing tools for improving collaboration, communication, and decision making within organizations.

I just published my newest entry, this time focusing on the award winning Sky Team!

Friendly card-playing tavern keep mode!
Huge crisis at #GenCon, this guy needed my help but I set that aside so I could play this tavern keeper in a round of Gwent.

#GenCon fan boy moments! Happened to meet Zach Reno and Persephone Valentine and they were both so incredibly sweet to all the @dropout.tv fans working at our booth.

Had an amazing time working with @hachettebgusa.bsky.social at my very first Gen Con! Such a memorable experience and the team felt like a little family by the end.

Also got to ride Roach, finally!
That’s a wrap!

We wouldn’t be able to run our Gen Con booth and events without this fantastic staff! Our team is the best and we will fight anyone that says otherwise!

And yes, they know about the Witcher meme…😆

See you all next year!
