Such a fun sourcebook to play around with! We have a riot sneaking in as many historical anachronisms as possible.

Flagbearer is a rad, queer-friendly organization that does great educational work!

Can’t wait for the Ken Burns documentary of our times where all of the celebrity-read letters have Minecraft or Subway Surfers in the background.

Very similar to how the story in older JRPGs still feel more engaging to me. Give a bit of information and a vibe and I’ll do the rest.

I think it’s a lesson for every GM/designer telling a story. Provide a light but potent touch for players and let them free to fill in the gaps and bring meaning.

Also gave me flashbacks from the Mind Maze game in Encarta 94, if not for the orthogonal exploration and quirky beings

I picked it up last week, did some solo play over the weekend and had such a fun experience. It tells a story through the cards in a way that feels so special!

DnD still leans on its reliance on rules and supplement books as a business model which I think reinforces player expectations of consistent application across campaigns.

It’ll be interesting to see if Daggerheart can ride the line in between the rules and game cards and its story-first mindset.

It actually reminds me a lot of Sanderson’s theory of Hard Magic versus Soft Magic. In short, when you introduce hand-waving of the rules for storytelling purposes in an environment where the rules are the core of the experience, it feels bad.

Not to say you can’t run whatever game you want to in DnD, but ending a combat early or shifting how a spell works to flavor the moment often seems to evoke player resistance because it goes against the “canon” of the rules.

There’s two shitty Gandalfs in all of us!

“Two Shitty Gandalfs” would also be a fun game

Tweaking my back chasing after my juking one-year old this morning felt like a hit to the HP this morning though it’s not like he successfully drew blood.

So much of this can come down to how the game/gm can describe HP as reserves of stamina or fatigue versus the usual idea of physical harm.
