Man, the big huge protests in places like Boston, DC, NY, Chicago, and Minneapolis are awe-inspiring.

But my heart is gonna explode looking at these crowds of people out in tiny Maine towns and super red Alabama towns. Places where 15% of the population is on the street corner with more coming!

The #handsofflancaster event today was thrilling, and inspiring! I was honored to be asked to speak about banned books and what the Trump regime is trying to do to our libraries. You can read the full text of my speech here: medium.com/@estamm/hand...

I guess art is like writing and some days it just doesn’t work. Ah well, tomorrow is another day!

I feel like something in my brain clicked and my art has gone up a level—so happy with how these both turned out!

They want you to give up, to check out, to drown in misery and nihilism. They want you to believe they are inevitable. They want you to believe that nothing matters, nothing can be done, and only naive fools think there’s any point in fighting or anything worth fighting for

The other day I introduced myself as a freelance writer for the first time, and it felt pretty great to claim an identity other than librarian or mom.

Editing your own book is an internal monologue of “This is soooo good, you are a genius” to “What is this shit, have you no shame?” back & forth forever.

The millennial experience is growing up with the internet, and watching it go from a free, open, democratic, and eclectic ecosystem to a wasteland of five websites controlled by billionaires, and now seeing it quickly fill up with AI-generated slop.

I want our World Wide Web back.
i don't want to hear your most boomer complaint. what's your most millennial complaint?

I’ve been working really hard this year to improve my art and my writing, and I’m pretty pleased with how both are going! Here are a few of my fav art pieces so far in 2025:

How are we still arguing about this in 2024? Audiobooks! Are! Books!
Audiobooks count as reading.

Here are the picture books we read in my Covid conscious virtual storytime this afternoon! I really adored how This is a Story was full of REAL books, some that we’ve read before in this storytime!

If you have a little and want to join in we meet every Thursday afternoon for songs and stories!

Honestly this is what I wish I could get across to everyone. Don't wait for someone else. Look at what you can do, right now. I don't care if it feels small or pointless, fucking do it. Act. Get up and do one thing.
And if there was one message I wish I could convey, from our groups to you, it's that - don't wait.

When you see a need, don't wait to try to fill it or fix the problem. There's no "authority" or "adults in the room" to wait for.

There's just us, and we're enough.

Don't wait.
Act.
Anarchists are all over, but we've learned there's not much point to being loud about our affiliations and our tendency in this day and age - so instead we just get to work.

We just build things, fix tings, make things happen. We see a need and we just do it. It is maybe our defining trait.

I’ve been challenging myself this month to make some art every day. Here’s yesterday’s! I use a tracing projector app to help me sketch out the lines, then I use watercolors, and then layer markers and pen on top.

Conspiracy theories crop up during periods of instability because they actually represent a form of wish-fulfillment. If only our institutions were organized and robust enough to support a massive conspiracy! Focused on us! That idea is more comforting than a chaotic reality with uncaring leaders.
