Abortion rights, voting rights, and free speech were on the ballot and Pennsylvania voters knew it.

Retaining a state supreme court that values our constitutional freedoms and rights is a major win for civil liberties in PA.

Tragic mass shootings in SC and MI this weekend. Should we assume the national guard will be called in to these “war zones”?

Oh wait-never mind. They are republican led so everything is great.

The POTUS babbling is in coherent. He’s bounced from all the wars he’s ended; democrats thanking him for making it safe to go out to dinner in DC and how he gets blamed for everything. #UkrainianPeaceSummit

Trump on @cnbc.com with @andrewrsorkin.bsky.social sounds full on crazy pants. “Banks are afraid of regulators but they are more afraid of their wives.” Even #JoeKernan is trying to get him to stop talking.

This would fund 22 years of NSF’s *entire* current budget.

Instead, we are taking people off healthcare to pay for concentration camps.
Where we are as a country:

"The funding in the bill will make ICE the largest jailer in the world, with $200 billion at their disposal."

Private philanthropy is not going to fix the gaping holes left by federal cuts.

Letters/applications are up:

4x for Spencer Foundation (500 -> 2000)

3x for W. T. Grant Foundation

It's "millions compared to billions," said Alonzo L. Plough, VP of research at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
A thoughtful analysis from @mkhaw.bsky.social of the limitations of philanthrophy in filling the holes left by NIH and NSF cuts. “We’re trying to just get as much money out the door as we can," the Spencer Foundation's president said. #HigherEd #AcademicSky
As the Nation’s Research Model Falls Apart, Private Money Becomes a Band-Aid
Some foundations are offering much-needed stopgaps for researchers. But that’s not a permanent fix, scientists and advocates say.

After public outcry, a provision has been removed from the House tax bill that would've essentially given the executive branch free rein to shut down non-profits and stifle dissent.

This is a big win, but we must keep up the pressure to make sure this dangerous proposal stays dead.

🧪 Another round of NSF grant terminations is expected today.

But here’s a silver lining: there’s already a webinar for you today at 2 pm ET if you’re in that boat!

(Tries to find the dark humor in moments like these…)
🧪 If you had your NSF grant terminated, I'd *highly* recommend going to this Friday's webinar.

Friday May 9 at 2-3 pm ET

Will talk about both the appeals process, in addition to allowable closeout costs. Share widely.
