@delchi.bsky.social was SUCH a huge cDcNSF booster and organizer. He had a tough time of it, and it affected him a lot of ways, some of which were hard for him and others, but man he put in the work. He was particularly focused on disability access and awareness at hacker cons. RIP.

Holy shit, just learned about the typewriter art of Montserrat Alberich Escardívol, a Catalan typist. Using an extra wide typewriter and 180 color ribbons, she built up elaborate images from simple characters like 'm' and '.' and ';'. Here is her typewritten painting of the Cathedral of Barcelona.

When I first got here about 2 1/2 years ago Bluesky was about 80% death threats by volume; you'd see people say Bluesky was great because "you don't get death threats like on Twitter" and then they would turn around and tell someone else to "kys"

Yesterday I spent all of 5 minutes poking around to see why Sarah was suspended and said I couldn't find anything so of course a stranger came *running* to me today with the Bluesky Safety post to "prove me wrong" 🙄
For months I had a guy on here who kept creating new accounts to threaten to kill me, he would also threaten anyone I @'ed, and all they did was shadowban him temporarily, so one day all his threats became visible all at once when the shadowban was removed.
The account owner of @sarahkendzior.bsky.social was suspended for 72 hours for expressing a desire to shoot the author of an article. The post, made 11/10, stated: "I want to shoot the author of this article just to watch him die." 1/2

There was a Social Studies teacher who got handsy with a girl in high school and I happened to see it, and his brilliant plan was to get the girl he touched kicked out of Theater so that way if she told on him he could just say "she made the story up in revenge" but he forgot there were witnesses >
My experience is that I was smart but socially awkward and also The Absolute Worst at math, and it was one of the few things other kids felt were relatable about me, we could all go "wow yeah that D+ in Calculus sucked" together
I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here
