People don't realize that Nixon was elected in a landslide after the first reports of Watergate came out.
The legend is that other newspapers were mad at WaPo scooping them so they delayed reporting on it themselves, but I suspect the media was covering for Nixon at least a little

I was in high school when Daria was (so to speak) and it was incredibly common. The town I was in at the time has fired multiple teachers for it, one is in Winfield State Penitentiary for it right now (but the school district tried to cover that one up until the police finally charged him)

There almost was with Loomer but that stopped abruptly, some thought she'd been removed from Trump's orbit to try to stop the rumors but now we know she's still essentially lobbying him to do what she wants, which makes me think the media purposely decided to stop covering the potential affair
