it doesn’t get any clearer that america’s betrothal to fossil fuels is about letting energy companies pick our pockets to prop up their obsolete industry
Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative

Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

"Now, the Trump administration has written a declarative statement on the USDA website: 'Bottom line, the well has run dry' — despite there being contingency funds of over $5 billion available for the program."
If SNAP benefits are halted next month, it will mark the first time in history the program has not been funded during any government shutdown.

The food stamp program was first established during the Great Depression in the 1930s under President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

there have been a lot of responses to this arguing that young Republicans were motivated by such feelings but didn't express them openly

and I think a crucial lesson of the Trump era is that there is great value in people not expressing these things openly! that's a big and decisive change!
For those tempted to say Young Republicans have always been this way, they really have not. When I worked on campus and did bipartisan college events after, they were very much not like this.

That’s why groups like YCT and eventually TPUSA formed — because Young Republicans weren’t radical enough.
EXCLUSIVE: Thousands of leaked messages show leaders of Young Republican groups joking about gas chambers, slavery and rape in a private Telegram chat.

Attacks on the federal workforce are also attacks on Black workers, who are overrepresented in the public sector.

Black unemployment is 7.5%. I'm reminded of Coates' observation that Black Americans regularly experience conditions that would be considered a crisis if whites faced them.

Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

Damn! You should do maybe 5 minutes of research before getting all smug.

Bluesky sends posted images to be evaluated by a third-party’s “AI”, yes, but if said company ALSO makes a generative AI (they do) then where do you think they get their training data? And why give them benefit of the doubt?
Damn! You guys should learn the difference between an AI model being used to evaluate data and data being used to train an AI model before you get mad.

Realistically, how many of the people involved in this have to go to jail & for how long in order to set this country straight?
Shelters that house unaccompanied minors are bracing for "Freaky Friday," the start of an ICE operation that will first issue letters to children, seeking to pressure them to return to the countries they've fled in exchange for a cash payment. If they decline, their parents will be targeted by ICE.
