The second phase of an overhaul of part of Grand Avenue is set to bring more concrete protected bike lanes to the corridor next year — but some business owners and neighbors want to see the plan amended before construction starts. blockclubchi.co/3WQrcUS

Roger Romanelli, the guy who is leading the pushback against safety improvements on Grand Avenue, is also one of the guys who got the Ashland BRT killed.

So, when he talks about wanting to "improve speeds for buses", on Grand it's a bit hard to take him seriously...

If your primary concern with new housing is traffic, parking, and noise, you don't have a housing problem - you have a car problem.

Dude, I just love a train

If we're going up to headquarters, I don't even carpool with my coworkers anymore, Hiawatha is just better in every way

I would rather wake up at 4am than get in your Tesla

I've been wanting to get one of those pocket-sized tap-to-pay things they use at restaurants

They all run Android from the looks of it

So what, I'm supposed to just... Go to sleep? Wake up for work tomorrow? Without knowing whether transit in Chicago is saved?

Insane 😞

It’s witness slip time! 🚨

Transit funding bill SB2111 has been assigned to committee and we need folks to file witness slips as PROPONENT immediately!

The attached graphic provides guidance for submitting a slip.

People really underestimate how crucial ranked-choice voting is for getting leftist candidates into office.

Zohran would have had a much harder time in a FPTP primary.

If you want leftist candidates, you should be interested in RCV.

Fusion voting, another way to offer voters more real choices, could also help break what political scientist @leedrutman.bsky.social has called the “two-party doom loop.” Learn more from @insidephilanthropy.com www.insidephilanthropy.com/home/buildin...
Building Bridges Is Good. Building the Power to Counter Extremists Is Better
There's a lot to like about philanthropy's investments to reduce toxic polarization. What's also needed, though, are near-term efforts to counter extremists in key arenas of power.

How did that woman write these stories

Literally how does she not see the irony

We should go back to the Betsy Ross flag.

I don't have a good reason for it, I just think it has better vibes.

Everyone should be paying attention to the ways in which Stephen Miller and the conservatives are trying to inflame violence between the black and hispanic communities.

I've seen some of Chicago's (shittiest) aldermen make the same play.

The Nazi analogy has been beaten to death, but... they just make it so easy. Literal Nazi behavior.
There are lots of more glaring and physically brutal basic violations of rights going on but it’s weird how ICE just seems to be freely stealing and wrecking people’s possessions too
I spoke to a Venezuelan woman who was arrested in this raid and later released with her 4yo son. She said agents broke down their door, pointed guns at them and made sexualized remarks about Venezuelan women. When she returned to her apartment it was boarded up and all her possessions were gone.

Two #GrandAve business owners have started a campaign to “save Grand Ave’s parking” - even though parking utilization is below 50%, and parking is only planned to be removed on one side of the street.

It seems they’re trying to get signatures for a petition against upcoming safety improvements.

I realize I deleted my rant about the state of the smoldering, rotting husk of an app formerly known as Twitter, but I just want to say:

If you're a liberal or leftist org and your website still links to your Twitter account, what are you even doing???

The only difference between a citizen and a so-called "undocumented immigrant" is paperwork.

ICE has no place in a civilized society and any serious future Democratic candidates will recognize it. It is a danger to all of us to have a department built to cause harm to civilians.
“Abolish ICE” doesn’t mean rebranding or shifting its powers elsewhere—it means ending the deportation, detention & incarceration machine targeting immigrant communities.

Apparently, I’m a “dangerous detractor”... by believing Palestinians (like myself and my family) deserve basic human rights.

But we’re not going to let AIPAC win.
