He/them. Autistic. Ex-piscopalian and mad about. it. Reconstructing. Pipe smoker. Birder. Paranormal Researcher. My politics don't graph. Big fan of canon Jesus. Same guy as Facebook, but a bit wilder here. Cishet but not weird about it.
After the last 24 hours, I've come to believe I can't make a positive impact here. I'm closing up shop.

But please, please, listen to one last thing before I go. It matters.

Stop convincing my neighbors that you hate them.

They're ready to do everything they can to invest supreme executive power

Ugh now all this discourse around Johnson and "accountability partners" is bringing up grief over how Evangelical-fundamentalism took me and so many others and taught us to not be able to trust ourselves. How it drowned us in shame while lying and saying it was freeing of from it. It's traumatic.

Sometimes I think about how as a young Evangelical I was made to feel like an unlovable disgusting monster because I'd ever engaged in solo sex or had seen adult media, and meanwhile those leaders shaming me were sexually abusing people or covering up abuse for colleagues, and I want to BURN THINGS

Not that the media ever will but they should be talking to exvangelicals/deconstructed Christians with the quickness so they can catch up because we really don’t have time for all of you to be this slow and this incredulous about the limited understanding you have

I dreamed that Bluesky had become a place of bigotry and insult.

And I'm not convinced my dream was wrong.

I think our efforts to keep this place safe for our values have also enabled us increasingly to behave exactly like the people we rightly fled from.

It's Animal Farm in action.

One of my favorite things about bsky is how often I'll walk into an argument thread and start legit throwing hearts and follows onto both sides.

I block the stupid and evil, but this site still has so many different varieties of smart and good.
I like how on bluesky people disagree with me in interesting ways that make me think (mostly) instead of just causing a big ball of distress that I can't pick anything useful out of

Soon would be nice.
In the glorious socialist future, buses and trains will arrive every 2 minutes, and private cars won't be legal

Having my prayer rule include all the Psalms really helped me meditate on how human beings have always seen a chasm between the goodness of God and the evil of the world. The wicked prosper and the good suffer. If I did not believe in God and the Last Day I would go mad

I'll be the first to admit the limits to my understanding of Judaism but it shocked me to learn that the power to excommunicate Jews lies in the hands of the august and ancient office of the editor-in-chief of the Jerusalem Post

As I continue to say: at the schools slashing humanities programs, look at where the admins went to college, as well as where they send their own children. They have no problem narrowing the horizons for other people's kids because they and theirs remain untouched by the consequences.

It was definitely one of the weirder attempts to create intersectionality from first principles using nothing but MS Excel plug-ins.

And that's saying something.
Coming from the company that did that one insanely weird inclusion matrix guide

I'm increasingly uncomfortable with the (seemingly growing) idea that "Silence = complicity" is something that applies to individuals. That's a slogan for politicians and institutions, not a call that you need to be making personal press releases about atrocities.

This, but absolutely without a single shred of irony.
when gmail first came out there was this theme with a little fox in a little house. Depending on the time of day he would be doing different adorable things like cooking dinner, reading a book, sleeping etc.

then they changed the layout and I couldn't see him any more

so much for "don't be evil"

A lot of art is shit now because all the arts grants were gutted and now the scripts and books and paintings are only done by people with family wealth with the odd token success story. And that's deliberate: governments don't LIKE when the poor and marginalised make art.

The great part about back in the day was that you had to run your ideas past people one at a time starting with the people nearest to you. So if they were stupid you found out from someone who presumably liked you before you left a paper trail.

Ah well, once more into the breach.
an important thing to know about human beings is that weve always been this stupid we just have never had such instantaneous and broad communication of our own stupidity
