Also, we probably won’t want AI to take over care jobs - nannying, nursing, teaching, pediatric therapists, etc - where women outnumber men.

Every crisis of masculinity is reducible to the fact that masculinity is always already in a state of crisis, because the anxiety that prompts the invention of masculinity is an anxiety about men’s now almost entirely baseless economic advantage over women.

This gives me hope that there aren’t as many Nazis out there as it seems.
The real number to be amazed at here, is how few they need to sell, how few new buyers they need, to sell that $200 million supply of garbage.

I feel like the church should have an uneasy relationship with the police (in the US). Spiritually supportive of individual cops, harsh and condemning of police corruption. Generous with spiritual directors and chaplains to cops. No more bishops riding in police parades.

So, went to confession last weekend, but ended up not getting to Christmas mass due to illness. ☹️
Hey y’all: just a reminder that if you’re sick, please stay home from church/gatherings. We got a nasty flu last year, and my son who is nonverbal and has diabetes landed in the hospital. It was rough. Please consider staying home bc there are compromised ppl out there! ❤️

When I was a buyer at a large indie, my rule of thumb was:
1 preorder: huh, let me take a closer look at this one
2 preorders: we need to stock this book
3 preorders: we should order enough to face this out
4+ preorders: this should be on front-of-store display

More detail: When booksellers get pre-orders, it's a quantitative and qualitative signal that there is like *something here* about a book. The avalanche of new books out there is hard to communicate if you're not in the industry, and pre-orders are one of vanishingly few signals. It is a real thing!
