American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

The BBC is under scrutiny. Here’s what research tells about its role in the UK
The BBC is the most widely used source of news in the UK. It has lower reach among the young and the less formally educated.

All these deaths of truly terrible people recently provide an excellent opportunity for journalists to learn and internalise the difference between a eulogy and an obituary. ⚰️
Sadly, though, they also show that many journalists are notoriously resistant to learning. 🙅

This, but with an Amiga 1000 form factor (including the keyboard garage and dog paw print on the inside of the top cover), plus a preloaded version of Geoff Crammond’s Formula One Grand Prix, and I would be severely tempted. 😍

THEA1200 Console
The Legendary ’90s Home Computer is Back.
Step into a time when floppy disks ruled, pixels popped and imagination had no limits. THEA1200 brings back the spirit of the early ’90s as an astonishingly accurate, full-sized recreation of one of the most loved home computers of its era, beautifully reimagined with HDMI and USB connectivity for a modern age.
Just plug it in and power it on to be transported back to a golden age of gaming. Relive the thrill of classics like Beneath a Steel Sky, Lure of the Temptress, Ruff ’n’ Tumble, Defender of the Crown I & II, the Turrican trilogy and The Settlers II, all pre-loaded and ready to play.
Everything you remember and more is here, with a working keyboard, classic mouse and retro-style gamepad, it puts authentic control at your fingertips. Whether you’re replaying old favourites or sharing them with a new generation, THEA1200 makes every session feel like 1992 again.
And with the Workbench desktop and USB stick support, you can explore, create and customize just like you used to.
THEA1200 isn’t just a computer.
It’s a time machine.
Relive the joy. Rediscover the magic. Reboot the memories.

My view from working on autocracy is that Dems were winning on the biggest fight- making autocratization unpopular and now they're giving that up.
Those are the costs

I’m not sure the benefits outweigh the costs, but this is a reasonable case that there are benefits to ending the shutdown.
I will probably get excommunicated from Bsky for saying that, but I can see a case for ending the shutdown now.
- Millions of civil servants did not get a salary for over a month, and millions are losing SNAP going into the holiday season.
- But, just as important...

This is really good to see: Miki Sherrill just put out a statement sharply criticizing the Senate Dems' pending cave in the government shutdown, ripping it as "malpractice" and a betrayal of the people who are "counting on us to fight for them." Sherrill knows what drove her victory. Wake up, Dems.
