really does feel like if we can cyberbully the House into passing changes on the shit they openly hate and get it kicked back upstairs again there’s a chance it might not survive the Senate a second time

if you live in a GOP state it’s time to ruin a House rep’s life
The package now goes to the House who is expected to vote on it this week. Any changes to the bill in the House will force the Senate to take up the bill again.

The current bill as written raises the debt limit by $5 trillion.

kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes

Musk should be asked about this in every interview he does now and forever. To ignore it is a dereliction of duty.

One thing I'm fucken sick of hearing is that people on the poverty line "don't want handouts."

Well, the rich take hand outs. Maybe they're rich bc they were offered handouts. Maybe they're rich bc they take them.

This "shame in receiving free money" for the poor but not the rich makes me SO MAD

Maybe literally one fucking American newspapers could mention this in their, “think pieces,” about what happened yesterday.

So, wait. For basically ever, men were earning way more than their female counterparts, and the messaging was that women were "too emotional" or whatever. And the second women start earning more than men, men completely lose their shit and it's a "crisis" "gripping" them? What a bunch of losers.
Young women are now consistently earning more than their male counterparts for the first time, according to a report that warns of a social “crisis” gripping young men

Last night @60minutes.bsky.social opened an otherwise superb segment on Germany’s approach to online hate speech by saying “in the U.S., most of what’s said on online [social media] platforms is protected by the First Amendment.”
No.The First Amend protects us against GOVT infringements on speech.

"They're trying to burn the constitution, turn Donald Trump into a King and give Elon Musk total control of the government" is accurate and clearer than just saying "it's an administrative coup", even though we also need to say that it's an administrative coup.

In order to argue that Musk has some authority under the Constitution, Republicans must either pass this through Congress or…go to court. The same courts they’re claiming that Musk can ignore. Either way, it slows Musk and his people down if they wonder whether they’ll face consequences.

If your boss or company tells you to do something unethical: don't say yes. Make them write it down.
If they won't put it in writing yourself. Send an email (bcc yourself?): "Following our conversation on x date at x time regarding x, I am writing to clarify your directives. According to my notes, you instructed me to A, B, and C. If any of this is incorrect, please advise. I have some concerns."

Everyone can organize.

Everyone can contribute to social movements.

Everyone can do something, from somewhere.

None of this is about "professionalism" or policy"expertise. That is counterinsurgency, demobilizing logic.

Everyone can organize and has something to offer.

Just saying that pressuring senators in both parties to take down Russ Vought’s nomination is a tangible “something” people can “do” to send a clear signal that this has to stop
Russ Vought devised these illegal holds on funding for disaster relief, medical research, student aid, child care, nutrition, and foreign assistance, as well as purges of the federal workforce.

If confirmed as OMB Director he’ll keep this up for four years.

The Senate should reject his nomination.

The story of this first week is corruption. Billionaires seated on the inaugural stage in front of the cabinet, crypto pump and dump, and the illegal firing of IGs. The media is acting like this is too chaotic and bewildering to interpret, but they are just afraid of sounding shrill. It’s corrupt.
