Yes, HID headlights are very bright but the bigger problem is the proliferation of gargantuan vehicles with 5’+ hood heights so that if you’re driving a normal sized car their headlights are at your eye level rather than seat level like they’re supposed to be.

the ancient precious metals drama fandom is thriving
Well this 2,600-year-old clay letter was a journey.

It comes from the archive of a goldsmith named Nabû-zeru-iddin in the heart of ancient Assyria. We’ve got someone left on read, a lawsuit, a mean step-mom, and people who get drunk and steal silver.

My mom's luckier than most (survivor benefits for GM pension + Social Security, & she's at full retirement age now), and I'm still mad about how widows are treated in retirement.

“The U.S. poverty line is calculated as three times the cost of a minimum food diet in 1963, adjusted for inflation.”

True, but it also was based on an economy food plan "designed for temporary or emergency use."

This is exactly what happened with Obama.
so many peoples' problem with Zohran is that they are inventing a confrontational class war political approach that he never, ever offered and being mad he's not secretly more radical than he pretended to be as if it's a betrayal

Please hear me when I say that

1) these anti-medical woo birth movements have been a primary feeder into anti-vaxx eugenic movements

2) they pre-date the age of social media

3) they exist because we have not addressed medical sexism and specifically obstetric violence

How I feel about the whole Olivia Nuzzi story is that there are a lot of talented, ethical, underemployed or unemployed black and brown journalists right now who are ready to work.

Stephen and I remembered the kid's Disguise a Turkey "family assignment" at 11 pm last night so I opened a few Etsy tabs for her to select from, woke her up 30 minutes early, and crafted my ass off this morning.

The misogynistic fucks in the admin are trying to make it so that grad school certifications in female-dominated professions (nursing, therapy, education) no longer count as “professional degrees” & you can’t get loans to go to grad school.
The DoE has reclassified numerous health professional and other degrees, limiting access to federal student loan programs eligible for the higher OBBBA loan caps from thousands to a few hundred.

As ALWAYS, this is about $$.

We're about to become REALLY "great"...

"Things happen" sometimes, like when you walk into an embassy to apply for your marriage license while your bride-to-be waits outside, but then you get bonesawed to pieces for having exercised freedom of speech as an US-based journalist and have to be carried out in a series of suitcases.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

Obituary writing thoughts (because when you and your husband have journalism degrees, you're the family obituary writers):

Grandniblings should be a word. I should probably also know exactly how many my mom has.

My dad waiting to die fifteen minutes after I cried on him and told him I needed to take my daughter home and left his house is such quintessentially dad/grandpa thing to do that I can’t even be mad about it.

Still devastated, though. Fuck cancer.

Where is that stud, I’d like to talk 🫦
Women who eat more ultra-processed foods on a daily basis have a greater risk of developing colorectal polyps before age 50 when compared with women who consume far less of the processed foods, a new stud found.
Study offers clues on rise of colorectal cancer in women under 50
The finding may be “one piece of the puzzle” as to why some people develop early-onset colorectal cancer.
