When I meet new people, I try to work “My voice is my passport” somewhere into the conversation to see if they know it, and when they do we become best friends.
RIP Robert Redford, star of this masterpiece of cinema

The world needs more beautiful things in it. This album by Joan Shelley comes out on Friday and it’s gorgeous.

I’ve now had multiple people describe my haircut as “punk”. It only took me 44 years to reach this level of peak coolness.

Being extra patient with myself this week. My heart, mind, and hands are not going to match the speed of unfolding catastrophes. So, I am moving deliberately where I can, when I can, and doing my best.

This year's E-Bike Rebate application is now open!

Please note that some of the qualifications have changed since last year in the interest of making the program more equitable.

I did a sleep study. I decided to do it because I often have super stressful dreams where I am running or swimming or trying desperately to find something and I just can’t get out of the situation I’m in and then I wake up with my heart racing and a headache. Sure enough, I have sleep apnea.

Twin Cities friends, the Alebrijes on Raspberry Island are a must see.

Our kiddo was trying to say the word “versions” the other day, but it came out as “virgins”. She was pointing at a group of cartoon characters and saying how they were all different virgins, and I was like, “Yup, that’s probably right.”

Also true: There's no sales tax on clothing in MN, and therefore no sales tax on yarn because under the statute, yarn is classified as future clothing.
Fact: In Minnesota you do not pay sales tax on Twix because they are considered a cookie, not candy

This is why I enjoy the music of The National. Everyone at their shows is too depressed to have affairs.

HEY! So we all know some of the best bookstores in the Twin Cities are on Lake Street - and now there’s no better way to get to them than the B Line bus!

Check out my day on Lake Street riding the B Line and buying (too many) books!

And @libro.fm supports indie bookstores as well!
Hey book lovers! Support your local library, of course. Also! Cool news! @bookshop.org has free shipping July 8-11. They also now sell ebooks, which is an excellent development. AND if you sign up for their email, there are periodic boook/ebook deals & I've snapped up many fine books that way. 💚📖🔥📘

Since people were asking about the words I shared today at the no kings protest, here's the full text. Thanks @indivistwincities.bsky.social and @mn50501.bsky.social.

Wrote it last week, but because it ended up being about how we carry grief and what we might do with it, it felt appropriate:
“no kings, all bricks”

Speaker Hortman was a bold and brave leader who made hard decisions and fought for the people of Minnesota every single day.

She and her husband Mark did not deserve to die. My heart goes out to their children.

I love it when my favorite writers are in my favorite magazine ❤️
Michael Kleber Diggs loves peonies and the sky over Kansas, is down with Queequeg and experimental facial hair, but when it comes to snakes, sloths, capybaras, and goldendoodles… well, you’ll have to read the latest Orion Questionnaire to find out.
