"In its hostility to recognising people's rights to collective action through legislation or banding together to insist on their rights it reveals the hostility to democracy that has been an undercurrent to the tech industry's growth for years."
New Gist: AI, The Sound and Fury
I try to explain all of this AI thing in one article, and suggest why it is hostile to democracy, to humanity and also happily likely to end with the would-be tech Sun Kings taking trips to the financial guillotine.

The Gist: AI, The Sound and Fury
We can calculate the amount of money flowing into AI. But what will the full cost be to society when the bubble pops? This is the Gist.

It took 8 weeks but one of my fellow students actually asked me a question about myself... (invisibility of the old translation student)
In last week's class I was the only person who had heard of Donald Rumsfeld, this week it was Showaddywaddy (and who had read David Copperfield) ... Life as the only mature student in class.

I was laid off from Teen Vogue this week, alongside multiple other phenomenal team members.
At our Summit, I was asked how it felt to be 1 of 2 Black women left and what that meant for representation. Now, there are no Black women at Teen Vogue and that is incredibly painful to think about.

When I talk about how the history of progressive/radical movements is tied to a history of intimacy this is what I mean.
Socialism is always both a theory of economic redistribution and a chance to hang out!!

It feels a bit weird to post right now in light of what has happened to @teenvogue.com and so much of the incredible team there. What sources shared here is important, & I’m grateful I got to work on this. I reported on how young people are being impacted by delays to SNAP: “It’s about survival.”

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.

Would love to know how many SUVs were involved. Apart from Irish drivers being particularly obnoxious, the size of the cars here is nuts.
As a pedestrian, I feel FAR more in danger here than I did living in Berlin.

It's upsetting to see a chart like this. A radical overhaul of Ireland's approach to road safety is needed, centred on education, enforcement, and design

There are three things everyone should know about youth and far-right voting:
1: There is (averaged all European countries) no correlation between being young and voting for the far right.

@ipsosnl.bsky.social published an age breakdown of the results of the election polls regarding tomorrow's Dutch elections.
Young Dutch voters are leaning more towards the centre-left (D66, PvdA-GL, PvdD, Volt), and are less likely to vote for both the far-right and the center-right.
