I wish the UK had the balls to do this.

Imperfect, hard to enforce, blah blah blah.
Still way better than the current global approach of 'acknowledging it does harm, doing nothing about it'

Kids and phones is our generation's 'smoking on planes', I'm convinced of it.

200 Billion Pounds. Imagine the investment into our infrastructure that money could've been used for. Instead, I suspect the majority of it is sat in some offshore bank account never to be spent on anything remotely useful to society.
UK public has paid £200bn to shareholders of key industries since privatisation.

In public ownership that would have gone into infrastructure, lower bills.

Privatisation delivered low investment, high bills, no tax on dividends to foreign investors.

No end to nightmare without public ownership.

The UK, where the day after a decision to take half a million children out of poverty, the media & political world has been full of sneering at those same children & their families, labelling them as ‘Benefits Street’, while the same people are moaning about a tax on £2m mansions. Shameful stuff.

Don’t want to be too moralistic about this, but it is an active disgrace what people are doing to a profoundly liberational scheme that costs relatively piddling amounts on the basis of a couple of right wing shitposters misrepresenting it on Twitter.

They'll never learn.

Apeing the far right just moves the Overton Window even further in that direction.

And more people will be on the receiving end of violence as a result.

All to solve a short term party political problem.

That is on Labour.

It's the new, "those immigrants want all your biscuits".

The inevitable next step; politicians responding not to the critical causes, but to the phoney "fury" & "rage" in the right wing press every single day.

Lies & misrepresentations that are then amplified by the BBC.

A lovely little illustration of how shit the public transport is in Leeds.

I need to get a bus from the city to a leisure complex in Kirkstall.

My options are the half hourly A1 airport bus or the 875 and 876. Their schedule shown below:

What we're seeing in the US, & to a lesser, but still devastating degree in the UK & EU, is the inevitable destination of free market capitalism

And we welcome it

Billionaires should not exist, but while we have them they should be restricted in how much they can donate to political parties & how much of the national news media they are allowed to own/control

Billionaires & multinational corps should have their political influence curtailed for all our sakes
The DNC has fallen far behind in the cash race.

Big donors have pulled back from giving to the party, and small donors are not growing enough to make up the gap.
