On Truss & Kwarteng in ‘22. Allister Heath, Telegraph: “the best budget I have ever heard a British chancellor deliver". Alex Brummer, Mail: “a genuine Tory package elbowing to one side the Treasury's fiscal conservatism".
These men will now be paid actual money for their analysis of today’s budget.

I am currently, because I know how to enjoy a Saturday morning, writing some guidance for people on filling this consultation in. As I do several things are highly apparent. Before I go through them though I don't want this to put people off of filling it in. It is important to do so nonetheless. 1/
Government has today published its consultation into "earned settlement", the forward alone contains a hot mess of misrepresentation of the current system by the Home Secretary. I would strongly urge anyone affected by the current system to respond.

Ok when someone says "men, reach out to people" what that DOESN'T mean is "wait until you're nearly dying of it, and then do a colossal no hold ls barred emergency trauma dump on someone that you've got no idea is barely surviving whatever horrific shit they are also dealing with right now, >>

I'd like to see the BBC get a 2 hour slot where they're held to the standards of Fleet street rather than their own impartiality rules.

2 hours of openly vitriolic reporting and commentary against their enemies or anyone they've taken against.
None of the HIGNFY smug satire, actual venom.

You can disagree and argue as much as you like but the point of evaluating something scientifically is that not every statement should be given equal credence because evidence matters
JD Vance: "Science as practiced in its best form is that if you disagree with it, then you ought to criticize it and you ought to argue against it."

Indeed. And remarkably, the guy who oversaw most of that destruction, and who unforgivably blamed the consequences on staff (when he wasn’t blaming patients) has since reinvented himself as some kind of wise, avuncular elder, wheeled on by the BBC to chin scratch about patient safety (yes, Hunt)
I can remember when it was a scandal if the 18 weeks wait figure dropped below 95%. It was only about 10-12 years ago.

The collapse in NHS performance under the last government was truly staggering, and went well beyond the pandemic.
New NHS England stats, via NHS Confederation:

"The total waiting list for procedures and appointments has dropped to 7.39 million in September, down from 7.41 million in August.

"The proportion of people waiting less than 18 weeks for care stood at 61.8% in September, up from 61.0% in August."

"Yorkshire Water was privatised in 1989 under the Water Act, launched debt-free and promoted as the start of a new, efficient era.

What followed was anything but. Today, the company carries almost £7bn in debt. Our rivers are polluted, our bills keep rising, and we’re told to pay still more..."

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.
