RCEM President Dr Ian Higginson has spoken out ahead of the annual Christmas shutdown of large parts of the health service.

He said the shutdown 'stores up' trouble for Emergency Departments in January and called for planning to mitigate this in future years.

This year saw strong engagement across the Clinical Quality team. Almost 70% of EDs in the UK and Channel Islands took part in RCEMs 2025 QIPs!

The latest performance data for major Welsh EDs, released today, showed that one in every seven people who attended ED in October 2025 waited 12 or more hours to be discharged, admitted or transferred.
